Everton transfer news: Lampard wants former Liverpool man Wijnaldum but faces trio of Prem rivals

Everton boss Frank Lampard is reportedly weighing up a surprise move for PSG’s former Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum this summer.

Netherlands star Wijnaldum joined PSG only last summer on a free transfer after quitting Anfield, but the French giants have decided to cash in on the £180,000-a-week star after just one season.

The 31-year-old scored three goals and added just as many assists in 38 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

But with Pochettino seemingly on his way, despite winning the title, it looks like Wijnaldum will follow him.

There is no shortage of Premier League interest in the player. West Ham, Wolves and Leicester have all joined the Toffees in the hunt for Wijnaldum’s signature.

During his time on Merseyside, the midfielder established himself as a key man in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield three. Indeed, Wijnaldum tasted Premier League and Champions League success at Anfield.

And despite significant Everton interest, it’s hard to imagine Wijnaldum playing in Everton blue.

The veteran star had a strong relationship with Liverpool fans and could tarnish that by joining the Toffees.

Although a switch to another Premier League club looks more likely, loyalty is not the thing it once was in football, so Wijnaldum teaming up with Lampard cannot be completely ruled out.
