Everton transfer news: Toffees join three Premier League rivals in chase for Man Utd starlet James Garner
Everton have reportedly joined a trio of Premier League rivals in the chase for young Manchester United midfielder James Garner this summer.
The Red Devils are ready to undergo a big overhaul of their squad following the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new manager at Old Trafford. And while Garner may well get a chance to impress the Dutchman in pre-season, a number of clubs are chasing his services.
The 21-year-old made a big impression on loan at Nottingham Forest this season as they earned promotion back to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
That has sparked interest from the likes of Leicester, Leeds United and Southampton. But now Frank Lampard’s men have also entered the running for the player’s signature.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Lampard wants to bolster his midfield this summer.
At this stage of his career, and with Ten Hag set to bring in new midfield recruits, there is every likelihood that Garner will be loaned out again.
Everton to deal with Man Utd again
To that end, Everton are hoping they can strike a deal similar to the one they had with Donny van de Beek. The Dutchman moved to Goodison from Old Trafford on a temporary basis in January.
The report adds that Garner could benefit from playing for a lower-end Premier League team.
Barring Leicester, that applies to all the clubs linked with the player. Forest, however, may also try and bring the midfielder back to keep some continuity in their side.
As for United, they’ve already announced that Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard will leave on free transfers. Nemanja Matic is also expected to follow in what’s likely to be the biggest shake-up at Old Trafford in years.
