Everton transfer plans for prolific Japanese star dismissed by trusted source as Leeds, Tottenham wait in wings
Everton have seen reported plans to sign Daichi Kamada dashed almost instantly, after it was claimed the Eintracht Frankfurt star has no interest in a January move to Goodison Park.
The Japan star has started the season in fanastic form. He has four goals and two assists from just six appearances in the Bundesliga. That has helped his Frankfurt side – last season’s Europa League winners – to three wins in their last four games.
And with a contract due to expire in summer 2023, interest in the Japan playmaker is understandably high. Indeed, talks over an extension have failed to see an agreement reached to date. As such, Frankfurt fear the star may have had his head turned and is planning for a move overseas.
Indeed, reports earlier this week suggested Everton were leading the charge for his signature. Frank Lampard is reportedly a huge admirer of Kamada and is looking to add an attacking midfielder to his ranks.
The Toffees allowed Dele Alli to depart on a season’s loan to Besiktas in the summer, with the Super Lig side having an option to buy. And while Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus was their top target, the star was denied the chance to move to Goodison.
That has led to speculation that Lampard could turn his attention towards Kamada instead. As such, BILD reports that Everton are planning a sizeable offer to tempt Frankfurt into his sale in the January window.
However, the same source claims a move to Goodison Park is ‘out of the question’ for Kamada. BILD reports that Frankfurt will reject any offer to sell the star in the January window.
Furthermore, they claim the Bundesliga club are going all out to try and persuade their star man to sign a new deal.
Frankfurt hopeful of extending Daichi Kamada deal
And now it seems their hopes of extending his stay are growing, with the player thriving under Austrian coach Oliver Glasner. Appointed in summer 2021, BILD claims Kamada feels he is playing the best football of his career under Glasner.
And, with the club enjoying life in the Champions League this season, Kamada appears content the club are heading in the right direction.
As such, they report a ‘mega offer’ would make Frankfurt ‘weak’, though even if that were to arrive, the player would likely reject such an approach.
Suggestions too that Frankfurt will be forced to cash in on Kamada in January have been dismissed by their sporting director Markus Krosche.
“For us, it is not a goal to give away key players in the winter break. We want to keep our key players,” he said.
Die Adler will now focus all their energy on tying Kamada to a new deal and they will be keen to achieve that with January fast approaching.
Failure to tie Kamada down an an extension will enhance speculation that a move to the Premier League could yet come to fruition.
Easy to see why Kamada is a player in demand
With a growing reputation, it’s easy to see why Daichi Kamada is a man in demand. Now in his fourth full season at the Deutsche Bank Park, he’s a player who has become more and more influential to the club.
He contributed to 13 goals last season (nine goals, four assists) as Frankfurt edged out Rangers to win the Europa League. That was his most prolific season yet – and with six goals contributions already this, he’s well on the way to topping that.
As such, it’s easy to see why Premier league suitors are growing for the 26-year-old. Those links are only likely to grow too if the player enjoys a successful World Cup.
As fate would have it, his Japan side face Germany in their first game on November 23. They also paired with Costa Rica and Spain in what will be a hard group to progress from.
To date, Kamada has 19 caps for his country, scoring six times. But if he takes a starring role, interest in the player is sure to rise further.
