Chelsea could complete unfinished £60m transfer after Everton talks stall, as Lampard interest in Man Utd target is reaffirmed

Anthony Gordon celebrates scoring for Everton

Chelsea could have a new opening in their quest to sign Anthony Gordon with the reason why his Everton contract extension talks have stalled emerging.

The Blues pushed hard to sign the Everton flyer last summer. Gordon, 21, was the subject of several Chelsea bids in multiple guises.

A £25m deal that included one or both of Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher was reported by Football Insider. That came after talkSPORT claimed a £50m bid with a further £10m earmarked for add-ons was turned down.

Ultimately, Everton retained their new talisman and given Gordon’s start to the season, their faith was well placed.

Gordon has a couple of goals to his name already and continues to be Everton’s most dangerous threat in attack. In lieu of his continued rise, the Toffees want to tie him down to a new and improved contract.

The Sun report they’re willing to offer a pay rise, though the terms Gordon is reportedly demanding aren’t making it easy.

Anthony Gordon pricing himself out of Everton?

The newspaper claim talks between Everton and Gordon have stalled with the winger demanding £100,000-a-week. Everton fans may believes Gordon is worth such a figure, though Everton seemingly have reservations.

Gordon’s camp want terms that better reflect his new £60m valuation. Whether Everton will ultimately relent and give Gordon what he wants remains to be seen.

But with discussions at something of an impasse right now, Chelsea will sense an opportunity to complete their unfinished business.

The Blues are fully aware their front line needs surgery. They signed Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to get the ball rolling. However, their 13 goals in their opening nine league matches isn’t the sort of return that is conducive to a title charge.

They’re known to be leading the race to sign RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku and the Frenchman has already undergone a medical. AC Milan’s Rafael Leao is another target on their radar after seeing a summer bid rebuffed.

However, Sunday’s latest news revealed they face competition for both stars in the form of Liverpool and Man Utd respectively.

Regarding the Red Devils, the Sun report also reaffirms Everton’s interest in signing Hirving Lozano.

Lampard eyeing Man Utd target Lozano

The Mexico international, 27, plays for Napoli, though may not do so for much longer.

Lozano is being eyed by both Everton and Man Utd and his agent recently namechecked both clubs when insisting the winger will move in 2023. Lozano’s current deal in Naples expires in 2024.

“Next June, Lozano will leave in my opinion, also because he earns over €4m at Napoli,” agent Alessandro Monfrecol revealed last week.

“Although he is delighted to be here, he has never hidden that he aspired to the top English clubs. However, now he is probably realising that Napoli itself is a top club.

“He has never hidden that he loves Barcelona and Real Madrid, but unless Carlo Ancelotti falls in love with him again, he has no market.”

Monfrecol continued: “I think he could land in Manchester United or Everton. This does not exclude that other English teams could enter the negotiation. My personal prediction is that he will leave in June, but he is very happy here.”

Fabrizio Romano later claimed Man Utd had been offer Lozano’s services.

As a versatile winger, he could represent an ideal addition and would compete with the likes of Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

He’s also known to Erik ten Hag through his time in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven. Lozano operated at better than a goal every other game with Ajax’s great rivals between 2017-19.

The Sun don’t add much to what’s already known about Lozano’s future, though do reaffirm Everton and Lampard are interested in the Man Utd target.
