Kevin Mbabu reveals Marco Silva’s Premier League plan as Fulham finally get their man

Premier League new boys Fulham have finally landed Switzerland defender Kevin Mbabu from German club Wolfsburg after “years” of trying.

The 27-year-old right-back has agreed a three-year contract at Craven Cottage, with the club holding an option for a further 12 months. The deal has been classed as undisclosed but the Daily Mail claim Fulham have paid £6.4m for Mbabu.

Mbabu revealed that he was impressed with boss’ Marco Silva’s philosophy. And he says that Silva will not change Fulham’s attacking style even though they have been promoted into the Premier League.

“It’s been a long few weeks, but finally I’m happy to be here as a Fulham Football Club player,” Mbabu told FFCtv. “It’s a relief and now I can focus on my goals and the club’s goals, and help the team to be successful.

“The first step is to stay in the Premier League, stay stable in the league. And then why not aim for the top 10?”

“I am a very offensive full-back, but I am a tough player, very aggressive and always fighting for the team.

“I like the philosophy of Marco Silva and he told me he wants his team to have the ball for most of the time. For at least more than 50% of the time. He wants to play from the back and have offensive full-backs.”

Mbabu, who has been capped 22 times, is the fourth summer signing for Silva. The Cottagers have already signed Joao Palhinha, Andreas Pereira and Manor Solomon.

Kevin Mbabu a long-term Fulham target

Fulham owner Tony Khan said: “Kevin is a player whom we’ve pursued for several years.

“He brings great physical tools to our club in addition to his vast experience. And he’s determined to prove himself in the Premier League, so we believe that he’ll be a great addition to Marco’s squad. We are very excited about his arrival.”

Mbabu began his career in his native Switzerland with FC Servette. He made a handful of appearances before moving to Newcastle, aged 17.

He then returned home to play for Young Boys following an unsuccessful loan at Rangers.

H has spent the past three seasons in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, making 66 appearances and scoring three goals.
