Huddersfield Town have beaten off competition from Sunderland to land Wimbledon starlet Jack Rudoni, according to TEAMtalk sources.

The 21-year-old is considered one of the biggest talents in the Football League and Alex Neil had been hoping to take him to the Stadium of Light.

However, Huddersfield have agreed a deal worth £1m to take him to the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Terriers are believed to have agreed an initial £800,000 fee for the central midfielder with a further £200,000 in add-ons.

While League Two Wimbledon have negotiated a sell on of 15%, according to Londonnewsonline.

Huddersfield, Sunderland and Luton are all understood to have seen bids of around £500,000 rejected by the Dons last month.

Blackpool and Bristol City were also showing an interest in the player, who has come up through the Wimbledon ranks. But it was the Terriers who pressed ahead with another bid for the talented midfielder.

The arrival of Rudoni will help soften the blow of losing star midfielder Lewis O’Brien. The 23-year-old is understood to be in talks with Nottingham Forest over a £10m transfer.

Town to lose duo?

O’Brien made 50 appearances for Town last season and was a key cog in their run to the play-off final.

The Telegraph has claimed a deal could be wrapped up in the next 48 houes, while Forest also hold an interest in Harry Toffolo.

Rudoni scored 12 goals and grabbed five assists in League One last season as the Dons were relegated. And he is understood to have taken a medical and is expected to pen a four-year deal with the club.

Rudoni has been with the Dons since he was 11 and he signed a new deal in April 2020.

The former Crystal Palace youth player has made 91 League One appearances, scoring 16 goals and claimed 11 assists.
