‘Offer of a lifetime’ – Agent details star’s stance on mooted Leeds transfer

The agent of a Serie A star the subject of repeated links with Leeds United has revealed his client’s stance on a potential transfer away.

Leeds United have struggled to hit the heights they reached last season in the current campaign. Just one win has been registered from their first nine matches, a run of form that leaves them one place above the relegation zone at present.

Amid absences from Raphinha and Patrick Bamford, the Whites have lacked their usual cutting edge in attack. But of greater concern is their continued inability to keep a clean sheet.

Leeds have kept their opponents scoreless in the league on just a single occasion this year – in their 1-0 victory over Watford.

Marcelo Bielsa’s maverick style ensures his defenders are often faced with defending one-v-ones. His current crop in the back-line have struggled with that aspect this season.

As such, Sport Witness carry quotes from the agent of an impressive Serie A defender persistently linked with Leeds.

The article cites three previous occasions in which the Whites were touted as a potential suitor for Sampdoria’s Omar Colley over the summer.

The Gambia centre-back, 29, has been an ever-present for the Italian outfit in Serie A this season. Sport Witness claim Colley could be targeted in January to help patch up their porous defence. However, Colley’s agent, Cheikh Fall, has suggested an “offer of a lifetime” will be required.

Leeds will reportedly command upwards of £50m for a summer sale of winger Raphinha, much to the dismay of their fans, with more updates on Kalvin Phillips and Todd Cantwell.

In quotes taken from Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the agent said: “The reasoning is always the same. He can leave Sampdoria only if a great offer arrives; let’s say the offer of a lifetime.

“He is fine at Sampdoria and Genoa (the city in which Sampdoria are based). He will never leave this team for clubs and salaries of the same level or slightly higher.

“In fact, we have always rejected similar offers in recent years.”

If Fall’s words ring true, Leeds would have to go above and beyond to land Colley if they deem a January transfer worthwhile.

Leeds raid on Chelsea given backing

Meanwhile, Leeds would be making a very good signing if they snapped up Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley, according to a pundit.

The Whites have added to their attack and defence following their long-awaited Premier League return. However, midfield is one area which Bielsa has left relatively unchanged. A recent report revealed the Whites were on the trail of the former Everton midfielder.

One pundit recently insisted that Barkley would be a good fit for Leeds. Now, weight has been added to that claim.

Michael Dawson told Sky Sports (via Football London) during Chelsea’s 7-0 win over Norwich when asked if Leeds would be a good option for him: “Very much so. Barkley would be a good signing. You talked about the depth in the side, it is very small.”

Meanwhile, a report has claimed that Burnley and Newcastle are also in the race to sign Barkley. Leeds had Barkley on loan during part of the 2012-13 season, when he was still owned by Everton. The midfielder made just four appearances in the Championship back when he was a teenager.
