Leeds United have ‘stepped up’ their interest in Paris Saint-Germain striker Arnaud Kalimuendo and have made an improved offer for him, according to a report.
Kalimuendo has spent the last two seasons on loan at Lens from PSG. He hit eight goals during his debut season there and improved on that the second time around.
Last term the attacker registered 13 goals, with 12 of those coming in Ligue 1.
Kalimuendo is highly rated in France. However, his future at PSG is uncertain due to their wealth of forward options.
New boss Christophe Galtier can use Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Lionel Messi and Mauro Icardi up front. So no matter how good Kalimuendo gets, he will struggle to get a starting place on a regular basis.
Leeds are looking to pounce on the situation by bringing Kalimuendo to the Premier League.
On Sunday, Whites chief Victor Orta made a £17million offer for the 20-year-old, who represents France U21s.
However, this fell short of PSG’s valuation as the French giants want £21m. They feel this represents the significant amount of time they put in developing him as part of their academy.
Reported new Leeds offer for Arnaud Kalimuendo
Goal provide an update on Leeds’ hunt, while citing French newspaper L’Equipe. They claim Leeds have ‘stepped up’ their interest and have made a new offer matching PSG’s asking price.
The two sides are now in negotiations over a £21m deal for Kalimuendo.
Goal state Inter want to land the goalscorer too. However, Leeds’ discussions with PSG puts Jesse Marsch’s team in a strong position.
Leeds already have Patrick Bamford as their first-choice striker, while Rodrigo and Joe Gelhardt are also in the squad.
Bamford struggled with injuries last season so it would be a good idea for Leeds to bolster their ranks by signing Kalimuendo.
Plus, they are losing Raphinha and several players will be required to fill his absence.
The West Yorkshire outfit capturing Kalimuendo would show their Premier League rivals once again they mean business.
Impressive signings from the club this summer include Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Tyler Adams. Kalimuendo coon soon be added to this list, too.
Meanwhile, Leeds outcast Kiko Casilla has made a big hint about where he could move next.
