Bamford, Ayling updates as potential return to action with Leeds is named

Leeds United will continue to monitor the fitness of both Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling amid increasing optimism the duo could return to action after the international break.

The Whites have been plagued by injuries in what has been a difficult season so far Marcelo Bielsa. Indeed, Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester means Leeds have just two three-point hauls to their name this season. However, after a solid display against Brendan Rodgers’ side, they at least go into the international break with a lot more optimism.

Indeed, Leeds created a plethora of chances to win the match against Leicester. To that end, big chances passed up by Jack Harrison, Dan James and Rodrigo Moreno means Leeds had to settle for just one point.

As it goes, there were many who feel the absence of Bamford has hit Leeds especially hard. The England striker has not featured for Leeds since sustaining an ankle injury on 17 September.

Since then he has missed a total of eight games for Leeds, with the likes of Rodrigo, James and Harrison all played up front – with limited success – in his absence.

However, hopes are growing that Bamford could return to action in time for their next match against Tottenham on Sunday November 21. He continues to receive daily treatment on the injury by Rob Price and his excellent medical team at Thorp Arch.

And speaking to Emma Jones on BBC3’s MOTDX, Bamford provided an update.

“It’s okay, it’s been a little bit slow (the recovery).

“It is (getting better) day by day, it’s just taking a little bit longer than I first thought.

Leeds hope Bamford, Ayling can return to action

Having missed the last eight games with injury, Leeds will hope to have Patrick Bamford & Luke Ayling available to face Tottenham

“The thing that’s got under my skin a little bit is that I thought I’d be back in four weeks. The fact it’s taken longer than that has been difficult to get my head around.

“But I’m seeing improvements.”

We understand there’s a growing optimism that, should he not suffer any further setbacks, Bamford could return to the Leeds squad for the clash at Tottenham.

His return to action will give Leeds an enormous boost, even if Bielsa doesn’t select Bamford from the off.

Ayling also nearing Leeds return

Ayling has also been absent for Leeds since the 1-1 draw at St James’ Park. Indeed, his injury has also created an issue for Leeds.

Bielsa has utilised Jamie Shackleton and Cody Drameh at right-back in his absence. However, it was Stuart Dallas who was given the role against Leicester.

A favourite of Bielsa’s, the 30-year-old started every match last season in the Premier League.

Back in mid-October, Ayling was ruled out of action for another month. That also puts his recovery on track for the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The return of the duo will further boost a Leeds squad, who have looked in decent form of late. Indeed, they will hope to extend their three-game unbeaten Premier League run further when they travel to north London.

All eyes, in the meantime, will be on the international break and the hope that Leeds don’t get hit by any more setbacks.
