Truth emerges over Bayern Munich link to Leeds star Raphinha – with deal hinging on one player

Bayern Munich’s interest in Raphinha has been confirmed as genuine – but a deal to take him to the Allianz Arena looks far from a certainty as sources in Germany have revealed.

The Brazilian superstar has been one of the Premier League’s best players this season, despite Leeds’ lowly position. Indeed, Raphinha has scored eight goals, chipping in with one assist from his 17 appearances so far. It’s that kind of form that highlights him as a transfer target for some of Europe’s top clubs.

Leeds though remain determined to keep him and are reportedly looking at rewarding their star man with a new deal.

The future of the Brazil superstar, however, looks likely to dominate plenty of column inches in the coming weeks and months. Liverpool are long-term admirers of the player, while reports on Christmas Eve claimed a deal to take him to Bayern Munich has been agreed.

While those claims, which emerged in Brazil via TNT Sport, have since been played down, another source has, indeed, confirmed Bayern’s interest is genuine.

As per Sky Deutschland, Raphinha is very much on Bayern’s list of transfer targets for 2022. However, rather than making his signing a priority, he will only be targeted were others to depart.

Furthermore, any move for Raphinha will only come in the summer with a January approach seemingly off the agenda.

They claim Bayern’s hierarchy are ‘dealing with the lightning-fast offensive player, but there can be no talk of an agreement and an imminent change in this transfer period’.

Raphinha deal ‘hinges on Coman’

Indeed, and more specifically, Bayern’s interest in Raphinha hinges entirely on Kingsley Coman.

The France winger’s deal expires in summer 2023 and talks over an extension have been ongoing. Bayern are determined to convince him to sign a new deal, but are, as yet, to reach an agreement.

Raphinha has been linked with Bayern

Leeds United's Raphinha has been linked with Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Should that continue to be the case, then the situation could come to a head this summer. Indeed, failure to agree on fresh terms will see Bayern listen to offers for him in an effort to halt his free-transfer exit.

Should that situation arise, Bayern will then look to replace the World Cup winner with Leeds star Raphinha.

Winger won’t leave Leeds mid-season

Leeds can therefore expect to keep their star man until the end of this season at least.

In addition, the Daily Mirror reports that Raphinha has made it clear that he plans to see out the season at Leeds.

The paper writes that, while he’s keen to play at a higher level, he won’t leave Leeds right now. Bielsa’s side are very much embroiled in a fight for safety in the Premier League. While Sunday’s win over Burnley was much welcome, plenty of hard work lies ahead for Leeds.

That said, chairman Andrea Radrizzani suggests it may be a question of when, rather than if, they have to sell the star.

The Leeds owner, speaking to Forbes,: admits Leeds may need to sell before they buy.

“We will have to sell maybe one or two key players and buy other talents coming up like Leicester did in the past. We need to be humble and realistic about our means,” the Italian said.
