Leeds linked with top-class midfield duo as Victor Orta looks to spoil Rangnick plan at Man Utd

Boubacar Kamara, Champions League presser for Marseille

Leeds United are reportedly looking to bolster their midfield with two options in January – one of whom in Boubacar Kamara is also on Ralf Rangick’s list of targets at Manchester United.

Marcelo Bielsa’s troops have found the going that little bit harder during their second season in the Premier League. With the side riddled with injuries, the Whites have won just four of their 19 games played so far. And while Sunday’s much-needed win over Burnley eases their relegation fears, strengthening their squad is very much on their mind.

To that end, chief executive Angus Kinnear has given some indication over their plans for the upcoming window. And while he wants Leeds to strengthen, he knows their position at the wrong end of the table could be a cause for concern.

Nonetheless, Leeds are pressing ahead with plans to strengthen and their midfield is understood to be their No 1 priority.

To that end, the Daily Mail, via Leeds Live, writes that Leeds are looking to pip Manchester United to the signing of Boubacar Kamara.

The midfielder has been cleared to leave Marseille in January, having refused to sign a new deal. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, they would prefer to generate cash for him now.

As such, he’s been mentioned as a possible target for new Red Devils boss Rangnick. He’s looking to bolster his midfield after outlining the area as a point of weakness.

As such, Kamara is one of a number of targets the German is looking at.

Orta ‘working on Boubacar Kamara deal’

The Mail, however, claims that Leeds director of football Victor Orta could yet beat them to the punch.

The 22-year-old would be a welcome addition to the Leeds midfield. A box-to-box midfielder, he has represented France Under-21s and also has Champions League experience.

He also made 43 appearances last season, having become a regular in Jorge Sampaoli.

But they would be powerless to prevent him leaving were Leeds to make a sizeable bid.

And any deal to take Kamara to Elland Road would certainly dent Rangnick’s plans. That said, the German is also reportedly casting his eye towards former club RB Leipzig, with Amadou Haidara also on his wishlist.

Leeds also looking at Nahitan Nandez again

Kamara isn’t the only midfielder Leeds are reportedly considering a move for.

Indeed, reports have once again linked the Whites with a move for Cagliari’s Nahitan Nandez.

He was a player on their radar over the summer, though his €30m asking price proved prohibitive.

And while that price now seems to have dropped, the Serie A side would still be seeking a fee in the region of £20m.

Inter Milan are also long-term suitors and the Italian media claims they could make a swoop.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke also believes Leeds are considering a fresh move.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “Nandez at Cagliari has been a long-term target for Leeds. They tried to sign him in the summer so I’m sure they’ll be looking to revisit that one as well.”
