Leeds blown away as midfield target’s huge wage demands leave rivals in clear

Boubacar Kamara in Ligue 1 action for Marseille against PSG

Leeds United look to be officially out of the running to sign Boubacar Kamara after his giant wage demands left two of their Premier League rivals to slug it out.

Marcelo Bielsa’s troops have found the going that little bit harder during their second season in the Premier League. With the side riddled with injuries, the Whites have won just four of their 19 games played so far. Furthermore, Sunday’s FA Cup defeat at West Ham saw the club start with three untried teenagers, underlining the lack of depth in their squad.

With new recruits on the agenda, chief executive Angus Kinnear has given some indication over their plans for the upcoming window. And while he wants Leeds to strengthen, he knows their position at the wrong end of the table could be a cause for concern.

Nonetheless, Leeds are pressing ahead with plans to strengthen and their midfield is understood to be their No 1 priority.

To that end, they are reported to have drawn up a shortlist of transfer options.

One of those they were reportedly looking at was Kamara, the France Under-21s midfielder who Marseille are looking to sell.

The midfielder has been cleared to leave OM in January, having refused to sign a new deal. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, they would prefer to generate cash for him now.

As a result, Leeds chief Victor Orta was reported to have made contact.

However, it seems the Whites are no longer candidates to sign him, amid claims Kamara wants £150,000 a week wages.

That money is simply beyond Leeds’ means and their priority remains to tie Raphinha down to a new deal. As a result, he could become the club’s first £100,000 a week star.

Kamara deal too costly for Leeds

But The Sun‘s report, in which they state he wants £150,000 a week, will categorically rule Leeds out.

Indeed, those demands are also making his other suitors, including Newcastle and West Ham, pause for thought.

But the one club linked with a move for Kamara who can afford those wages are Manchester United. As such, the paper hints they are likely to be left with a free run at his signing.

Newcastle may be tempted to get involved. However, their position at the wrong end of the table weakens their efforts.

Leeds consider Summerville approach

Leeds, meanwhile, will consider a loan approach for Crysencio Summerville, with Blackburn seemingly favourites.

The 20-year-old Dutchman has broken into the Leeds side this season and done well during his eight appearances to date. He has made just one start though and Leeds are seemingly open to a loan to further his experience.

That has prompted Rangers to express an interest in the former Feyenoord youngster.

However, they are not alone in their admiration for Summerville and a report claims Blackburn have now made contact.

As per Football Insider, Rovers boss Tony Mowbray wants Summerville signed as a replacement for Ian Poveda.

The wideman saw his season-long loan at Ewood Park brought to a premature end in November in the wake of an ankle injury. The former Manchester City man has recently been spotted holidaying in Abu Dhabi.

However, Mowbray is reportedly setting his sights on Summerville as a would-be replacement.
