Leeds United announce Brenden Aaronson arrival as midfielder explains how he fits their ‘recipe’

Brenden Aaronson, RB Salzburg to Leeds done deal

Leeds United have confirmed an agreement has been reached for them to sign Brenden Aaronson from RB Salzburg in the summer.

Brenden Aaronson was a target for Leeds during the January transfer window, but they have had to be patient instead. Optimism has been growing, though, and they are now ready to welcome their first summer signing.

The attacking midfielder arrived for a medical on Thursday. Subsequently, Leeds have now been able to confirm there is an agreement in place between the two clubs for his transfer.

Aaronson will therefore become a Leeds United player on July 1st. The move depends on international clearance and a work permit.

It will be Aaronson’s first time playing in the Premier League. He has been honing his skills in Austria with Salzburg, where he previously worked under Jesse Marsch. Now, he will reunite with the current Leeds boss at Elland Road.

Leeds have not confirmed the cost of the transfer for Aaronson. It is reportedly in the region of £28million, which makes him one of the costliest purchases in their history.

What they are able to disclose is that Aaronson has agreed to a contract until 2027. Currently 21 years old, it means he will now spend some pivotal years for his development in West Yorkshire.

Aaronson has revealed his excitement about his upcoming move.

He told LUTV: “It’s an amazing feeling to be here at this historic club, I am really excited for the new season.

“I think it was around Christmas or January that I could see there was some interest and hearing about Leeds United being interested, it was a huge moment for me and I was super excited.

“I had known a lot about Leeds at that time and what a famous club it is, the fans they have and how dedicated they are, it was just a dream place for me.

“We’re going to have a big next season and I am really excited to be a part of it. I know the team is going to be up for it, so it is going to be an important season.

“I am not even thinking about my off-season, I am just excited to get back into it!”

Brenden Aaronson a good fit for Marsch and Leeds

Aaronson played 25 times for Marsch when their paths crossed at Salzburg. From that experience, he believes he is ready to be a success at Leeds.

Indeed, Aaronson claims he has all the ingredients necessary to fit in at Elland Road.

He added: “Jesse is a fantastic coach.

“I worked with him for half-a-year at Red Bull Salzburg and he was amazing. I was grateful to work with him then and I am grateful to work with him again, so I am excited.

“With the half-year I played under him, he taught me a lot. He taught me how to get into the final third to score goals and get assists. So that’s something I am looking to bring here.

“I’ve heard about what the fans like about players here and I feel like I can be that type of player. I am a hard worker; I have this creative side to me and I think I fit this Leeds recipe in a player.

“The way Jesse wants to play, I learned a lot about the system and flourished under that system. So I am really excited to get back into it again.”

Aaronson will be the first Leeds signing of a busy summer in which they will hope to back Marsch to build a team more comfortable in the Premier League after finishing 17th this season.
