Carlos Corberan ‘under consideration’ for dramatic Leeds return after Huddersfield exit

Carlos Corberan could return to Leeds United in a coaching capacity after resigning from his role with Huddersfield Town, it has been claimed.

Corberan quit as Huddersfield boss on Thursday, a couple of months after leading them to the Championship play-off final. Before his departure was confirmed, there were rumours of interest from another club.

The 39-year-old will have done his managerial credentials no harm with his work in West Yorkshire. He appears to have a bright future as a head coach.

However, there are now rumours that he could return to a role among the backroom staff at Leeds United.

Corberan previously worked for Leeds between 2017 and 2020. Initially, he was their under-23s manager, before combining the role with one as a member of Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team staff.

In 2020, the Spaniard departed to pick up his own managerial career with Huddersfield, after previously leading Doxa and Ermis in Cyprus. In his first season, the Terriers finished 20th, before their remarkable rise to a play-off position last season.

Now, the club and Corberan have gone their separate ways. A few EFL managers have become Premier League coaches this summer, and Football Insider predict Corberan could be the next.

The website claims Leeds are considering making an offer to lure Corberan back, this time to work under Jesse Marsch.

Victor Orta still a supporter of Carlos Corberan

Leeds’ director of football, Victor Orta, still thinks highly of the former Valencia youth goalkeeper. Therefore, he could try and get him to fill one of the seats in the Elland Road dugout.

Corberan’s stance on a potential return to Leeds – or what his next step might be at all – remains unclear.

The current coaching structure at Leeds includes Marsch as the head coach, and Mark Jackson, Cameron Toshack and Franz Schiemer as his assistants.

It would certainly be an interesting storyline if Corberan was to return into that setup in some capacity. Of course, before Bielsa’s dismissal, he was one of the suggested candidates to take the reins until the job went to Marsch.
