Jose Mourinho devises crafty plan to gazump Leeds to £10m transfer target

Leeds United’s hopes of securing the January securing the Boubacar Kamara transfer in the January window appear to have been shut down by Roma coach Jose Mourinho.

Marcelo Bielsa’s troops have found the going that little bit harder during their second season in the Premier League. With the side riddled with injuries, the Whites have won just four of their 19 games played so far. And while Sunday’s much-needed win over Burnley eases their relegation fears, strengthening their squad is very much on their mind.

To that end, chief executive Angus Kinnear has given some indication over their plans for the upcoming window. And while he wants Leeds to strengthen, he knows their position at the wrong end of the table could be a cause for concern.

Nonetheless, Leeds are pressing ahead with plans to strengthen and their midfield is understood to be their No 1 priority.

To that end, a report on Tuesday claimed Leeds had made contact with Marseille over the Boubacar Kamara transfer.

The France U21 midfielder has just six months left on his deal and Marseille are willing to cash in now to avoid losing him on a free.

However, Calciomercato reports that it is Roma who are leading the chase for the midfielder.

They claim an offer of guaranteed first-team football from Mourinho puts Roma ‘on pole’ to land the star.

Furthermore, Roma look far better placed than Leeds to offer the player the regular European football he craves. They are currently sixth in Serie A and also remain in the UEFA Conference League heading into the last 16 of the competition.

As such, Leeds might have forced to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements.

Nahitan Nandez linked with Leeds

One man they are also reportedly looking at is Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez.

Nandez has been linked with a Premier League move for quite some time thanks to his form for Cagliari. He joined the Sardinian side in 2019 from Boca Juniors and quickly established himself in their team. So far, he has made 88 appearances for the club.

Indeed, he has been on Leeds’ radar for quite some time. They first were linked with a move during the summer. However, his then £23m asking price was more than United were prepared to pay.

And with Cagliari looking to sell their midfielder, reports in Italy claim it is Leeds who are ‘most likely’ to pounce.

Indeed,Tuttomercatoweb claims Leeds are likely to make their move for the player “soon”.

‘Leeds could soon make a proposal to Cagliari’, they report.

That’s in the wake of Cagliari reducing their asking price to Nandez – described in the media as a ‘midfielder warrior’ – to just €20m (£16.6m).

Whether the bid comes to fruition remains to be seen, though Nandez’s versatility will certainly appeal to Bielsa.
