Leeds United are braced for bids for three of their stars this summer, but Kalvin Phillips has signalled his intention to sign a new deal at Elland Road, claims a report.
Phillips is attracting plenty of interest, despite being sidelined with a hamstring strain since early December. His presence has been a big miss for Leeds, who have also changed managers in that spell.
Phillips, 26, did play for 26 minutes as a sub in the draw with Southampton on Saturday. And the England man is in line to face Watford on Saturday.
It’s likely that a number of scouts will be booked in to watch the player, who remains under contract until 2024.
There is no rush from Leeds to get Phillips tied down with Premier League survival their sole thought at this time. But with that mission on course the club will have one eye on a long-term deal for the midfielder.
And according to the Daily Mail, Phillips has “told the club he is willing to extend his stay at Elland Road”.
But his future is unlikely to be hammered out until June with Phillips in the process of changing agents.
Kevin Sharp currently represents Phillips, but that deal is set to come to an end in June. And with that going on Phillips is unlikely to extend his contract until his new representative is in place.
Aston Villa planning massive £60m bid for Kalvin Phillips
Aston Villa will persue Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips with massive £60m bid this summer
Rival interest from Aston Villa, West Ham and Newcastle United is present. In fact it’s understood West Ham’s two offers in January were prompted by the news that Phillips was switching agents.
The twin offers, believed to be around £55m, were quickly rejected by Leeds. Now Villa have come to the fore with The Telegraph reporting that Villa are now ready to pay £60m Phillips this summer.
Phillips has Champions League desire
Leeds-born Phillips is aware of the interest and while some bigger clubs are also believed to be looking at the player. They have yet to make a firm move.
Phillips has always pledged his allegiance to the club and they are ambitious but Victor Orta is also realistic over the salary that they can afford.
The ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ is believed to earn around £38,000 a week at the moment. But he does have a desire to play in the Champions League.
The Mail report that Leeds expect bids and to lose Brazilian Raphina this summer. Barcelona and Paris St Germain are tracking the winger, who will command a fee of around £40m.
The report also claims goalkeeper Illan Meslier is attracting interest.
Meslier, 22, arrived from Lorient in August 2019 on loan. But such were his performances that Marcelo Bielsa signed him up permanently the following summer.
He has made 80 appearances for Leeds and is now on the radar of a number of clubs in Europe.
