Leeds transfers: Rodrigo responds to incredible leaving link as clause helps second exit and third departure intensifies

The repercussions of Leeds United being relegated from the Premier League are becoming clearer, with three of their big names being linked with exits on Monday.

Leeds finished 19th in the 2022-23 Premier League, which means they will be back in the Championship next season. Of course, relegation comes with the consequences of losing important squad members.

Over the weekend, goalkeeper Illan Meslier admitted he would be interested in leaving Leeds for Chelsea – but only to become a first-choice starter at Stamford Bridge.

Now, as a new week begins, three other Leeds players are being tipped for transfers elsewhere. First of all, Rodrigo Moreno – who was their top scorer this season with 15 goals in all competitions – has become a candidate to join Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have lost Karim Benzema and therefore need to replenish their attack. They were looking for a deputy for Benzema anyway, so may have two vacancies to fill up front.

According to Radio Marca, Rodrigo could fill one of them. Speculation about a switch to the Spanish capital has been building in recent days, not helped by the fact that the former Valencia attacker apparently has a £3m release clause in his contract after relegation.

But speaking to Radio Marca, Rodrigo has said: “I live in the real world, I have Instagram and friends who read the newspapers.

“I can’t tell you much beyond what we all know because I don’t know.

“I am very focused on the National Team right now and on the following matches.

“Then, I don’t know what’s going to happen honestly, but I have a contract with Leeds and that has to be respected.”

The deal in question for the 32-year-old at Elland Road is only scheduled to last for another season.

Koch and Roca could also leave Leeds

Another player vulnerable to an exit because of a clause in his contract, according to other sources, is defender Robin Koch.

Like Rodrigo, Koch is out of contract in 2024. Moreover, Bild claims there is a relegation release clause in the Germany international’s terms too.

Newcastle could lift Koch back up to the Premier League. Alternatively, he has unnamed suitors in Serie A and back in the Bundesliga.

The reports have suggested that the release clause would actually allow Koch to leave for free, but sources closer to Leeds have insisted they will receive a fee when selling the 26-year-old.

Either way, it seems almost certain that Koch will be one of the players Leeds have to let go after losing Premier League status.

Another could be Marc Roca, who only joined the club last summer. According to Estadio Deportivo, negotiations have been scheduled to take place on Monday about a move to Real Betis.

Several other sources have emphasised that the Seville outfit could be the Spaniard’s next destination. They look likely to take him on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.
