Leeds Utd agree surprise exit with star to join ex-Arsenal striker and Italy legend in imminent transfer

A Leeds United star is poised to jet off to America after the Whites agreed an out-of-window sale that also cut a loan deal short, per a report.

While the English winter window has long since closed, countries whose windows remain open can still sign players from the Premier League.

The MLS window does not close until April 24 and as such, one of their glamour clubs, LAFC, are poised to swoop for a Leeds man.

Mateusz Bogusz is the player in question, with Spanish outlet COPE reporting his loan spell at Ibiza has been cut short.

Bogusz, 21, was loaned to the second tier Spanish side last summer. His deal was for the full season, though Bogusz reportedly wanted out of Ibiza during January.

Ibiza put their foot down and forced Bogusz to remain. They currently lay 21st out of 22 in the Segunda Division and hoped Bogusz could help guide away from the relegation zone.

However, the decision has now been taken out of Ibiza’s hands after COPE claimed Leeds Utd have greenlit a sale to Los Angeles FC.

The report states Bogusz’s loan with Ibiza is ‘history’, though the Spanish side will ‘receive an economic amount’ for the trouble of having their loan deal prematurely cancelled. Presumably, that fee will be paid by LAFC, not Leeds.

Bogusz said his goodbyes in Ibiza on Thursday and has reportedly flown to his home country of Poland ahead of catching a flight to America. He’ll reportedly pen a four-year deal in L.A.

Bogusz to be in star-studded company

Upon landing in Los Angeles, Bogusz will link up with a high profile pair in California.

Former Arsenal frontman Carlos Vela (2005-12) is their star striker. The Mexico international was named in the MLS best XI in 2018, 2019 and 2022.

He also won the MLS golden boot award for being the competition’s top scorer (34 goals) in 2019.

An even higher profile name in LAFC’s ranks is Italy legend, Giorgio Chiellini. The former Juventus stalwart, 39, moved to Los Angeles last summer.
