Mateusz Klich excited to make move as Leeds exit nears – as Man Utd join chase for would-be replacement

Hugely-popular Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich is on the brink of securing a transfer away from Elland Road – with the player described as hugely excited to by his imminent next move.
The Poland midfielder is one of the crowd favourites at Elland Road, playing a major role in their return to the Premier League. Rejuvenated under Marcelo Bielsa, he scored the first goal of the Argentine’s reign – and never looked back.
Klich was also on the scoresheet during their first return back in the Premier League – a 4-3 defeat at Liverpool. And he went on to three more times in 35 Premier League appearances that season.
However, there were signs that towards the end of that campaign that age was catching up with Klich. And Klich was in and out of Bielsa’s side in the second season back among the elite. That game-time became even more reduced once Jesse Marsch took over the reigns at Elland Road.
That led to speculation that Klich could depart Leeds over the summer. And with three midfielders signing in Marc Roca, Tyler Adams and Darko Gyabi, Klich’s prospects appeared grim.
The star, though, was persuaded to stay, though that decision soon backfired with Klich failing to start a single Premier League game.
And when that lack of action saw Klich heartbreakingly miss out on a place in Poland’s World Cup squad, the star knew he had to leave.
Indeed, TEAMtalk broke the news that Klich was pushing to leave Elland Road in January.
The Whites were hoping to persuade him to stay until the summer. However, it seems the player’s mind is made up with Leeds now ready to sanction his sale.
Mateusz Klich excited by move to DC United
Now, according to MLS Soccer, Klich is on the brink of securing a transfer to DC United. The MLS side, managed by Wayne Rooney, are reportedly in advanced talks over the signing of the 32-year-old.
And with an agreement reportedly close, Klich is said to eagerly-anticipating a new chapter of his career.
The report writes: ‘Klich is excited about a potential move to D.C. United, where he’s expected to be a key player under head coach Wayne Rooney.
‘Rooney took over at D.C. last summer and has helped overturn the roster, with 2023 his first full season after last leading Derby County in England.’
The MLS side will reported to pay around £2.5m for the 32-year-old. His deal at Leeds still has 18 months to run.
And he will depart Elland Road with a huge show of appreciation. He has played a total of 192 games for Leeds, scoring 23 times and adding 21 assists.
Thoughts will immediately turn to a potential replacement at Elland Road, especially amid claims Adam Forshaw is also up for sale.
The Whites are reportedly on the trail of Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic, who starred for Serbia at the World Cup.
With 18 months left on his deal, Lukic finds himself a man in demand.
Leeds are among those keen, amid claims he can reportedly leave for a fee of around £15m.
However, there is also interest from Jose Mourinho’s Roma, while reports this week from Torino Granata claims Manchester United are keen on him too.
Lukic has featured in 12 of 14 Serie A games this season, scoring three times and assisting once for the ninth-placed side.
