Monumental Leeds flop ‘wanted’ by former club in astounding U-turn within hurtful 11-man clearout

Georginio Rutter and Illan Meslier

Leeds United record signing Georginio Rutter is being linked with an exit from the club after just six months, per a report highlighting who could leave them after relegation.

After finishing 19th in the Premier League table this season, Leeds will be back in the Championship next term. They will be hoping to climb back up far quicker than they did last time they lost their top-flight status back in 2004.

But as things stand, they are vulnerable to various departures from their playing squad. TEAMtalk recently explored 10 players who could leave Leeds after their relegation.

Now, an update from the Daily Mail has explored 11 potential exits. It has been revealed that a number of Leeds players have clauses in their contracts allowing them to leave on loan after the drop to the Championship.

Per the report, the players who the clauses apply to include Brenden Aaronson (who has been approached by Fulham), Tyler Adams (targeted by Aston Villa, Brighton, Everton, Nottingham Forest and West Ham) and Illan Meslier.

Meanwhile, Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente are both on the verge of loan moves to Roma. The latter was already at the Serie A side for the second half of the season just gone and his return to Rome has been agreed.

But one of the most interesting fresh lines in the Daily Mail‘s report is that Rutter ‘is wanted back at Hoffenheim’ just half a year after joining Leeds in a club-record deal.

The attacker has so far struggled to live up to his high price tag, failing to score from his first 13 appearances for Leeds.

He previously played for Hoffenheim between February 2021 and January 2023. They will still be in the German top flight next season and could be willing to welcome Rutter back.

To replace him in January, Hoffenheim signed Kasper Dolberg on loan from Nice. However, the Danish forward looks more likely to move elsewhere rather than staying at Pellegrino Matarazzo’s disposal.

Thus, there could be a gap in the Hoffenheim attack for Rutter to reclaim. Even though it would leave Leeds short again numerically, he probably wouldn’t be missed too much in West Yorkshire.

Rutter to rival Leeds teammate in Bundesliga?

Another player who could leave Leeds to return to the Bundesliga is former Freiburg defender Robin Koch, who has become a target for Eintracht Frankfurt.

The remaining four departures hinted at by the report would all deprive Leeds’ attack further. Indeed, the Mail confirms Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto are of interest to Everton.

There is also the reminder that there will be offers on the table for Jack Harrison, while it has been verified that Victor Orta wants to take Rodrigo Moreno with him to Sevilla.

Leeds will have to find a way to replenish the ranks depending on how many players depart if they are to make a serious attempt at getting back into the Premier League by 2024.
