Rasmus Kristensen comes clean on links to ‘huge club’ Leeds with stirring message over potential transfer

Leeds United have been boosted in their hopes of securing the transfer of Rasmus Kristensen with the RB Salzburg right-back doing little to hide his wish to make the move a reality.

Jesse Marsch’s side have quickly set about their summer business, securing the transfer of Brenden Aaronson. That £25m signing, which was set up back in January, was secured just days after Leeds’ Premier League survival was confirmed. And it seems like he won’t be the only new addition from Red Bull Salzburg this summer.

Indeed, Leeds are also reportedly closing in on the signing of his former teammate Kristensen. The Dane has reportedly opted for a move to Leeds ahead of rival interest from Borussia Dortmund and Brentford.

Furthermore, a report earlier this week claims personal terms have already been agreed.

The 24-year-old is well known to Marsch with the American having signed the Dane for Salzburg.

And it seems his £10m signing is a real coup for Leeds given the impressive numbers he achieved for Salzburg this season. Indeed, Kristensen had a hand in an impressive 18 goals with 10 goals and eight assists to his name.

And while he will find the going tougher in the Premier League, Leeds United, by all accounts, are getting their hands on a relative bargain.

Any deal for the right-back is likely to be on hold for the time being at least. Kristensen is away on international duty with Denmark, helping his side to an impressive 2-1 Nations League win over France on Friday.

Speaking after stepping off the bench to play a leading role in the Stade de France victory, Kristensen was clearly a happy man.

Rasmus Kristensen praises Leeds United

“It’s insanely cool to beat the reigning world champions at the Stade de France,” Rasmus Kristensen told Bold. “It’s crazy, it’s actually completely insane.”

The interview quickly turned to his future and Kristensen did not hold back having been asked about Leeds United.

“It may be that he’s waiting to tell me something so I can stay focused on the national team. I have asked to be barred from getting information until I have to make a choice.”

However, when pressed if he has been using Google to look up Leeds, Kristensen did not hold back in lavishing praise on the club.

“No, not the last few days, but I do not need to google Leeds United to know about that club.

“There is both a former teammate and my former coach who has switched to them. It is a huge club, a traditional club. It is the world’s best league, and it will be huge to get a foot in there.”

Leeds needed right-back cover

With Luke Ayling facing a spell on the sidelines, it was clear Leeds needed to bring in more quality at right-back. The long-serving star went under the knife a week before the season ended. His recovery is slotted for four months.

Leeds are also without Stuart Dallas, who faces an even longer period on the sidelines after a horror injury against Manchester City.

The Whites to have Cody Drameh back at the club for the start of pre-season training, however. The 20-year-old fell out with Marcelo Bielsa over his wish to leave the club on loan.

However, the move appeared to pay dividends with Drameh impressing during a temporary stint at Cardiff.

They are keen to bring him back on loan though it’s not yet known what Marsch’s plans for Drameh are.

He will likely be needed as cover in the opening weeks of the season as Ayling works his way back. As such, a move away at this stage will need careful consideration from the Leeds coaching staff.

Meanwhile, Leeds United are bracing themselves for a big opening bid from Manchester City for Kalvin Phillips. And one club legend has explained why the player will thrive by making the move to the Etihad.
