Leeds United transfer news: Signing No 2 done amid big Fabrizio Romano reveal on Rasmus Kristensen

Rasmus Kristensen, Denmark defender, ahead of the Nations League clash against Austria

Leeds United will finalise and potentially announce the signing of Rasmus Kristensen on Wednesday, with the player becoming their second new signing from Red Bull Salzburg this summer.

The Whites are actively trying to strengthen their squad, having sailed painfully close to the relegation wind this season. They clawed their way out of the drop zone on a dramatic final day, courtesy of a 2-1 win at Brenford. That success, coupled with Burnley’s loss to Newcastle, meant it was the Clarets who suffered demotion.

Jesse Marsch’s side set about their business within hours of seeing their safety confirmed. Indeed, that very same night it was announced that a deal for January target Brenden Aaronson was done. The young American’s signing being formally announced just a few days later.

Aaronson’s arrival from RB Salzburg, however, won’t be the last time Leeds raid the Austrians this summer. Indeed, it emerged last week that a deal for Kristensen was in the works.

The Denmark right-back has seemingly opted for a move to Leeds ahead of rival interest from Borussia Dortmund and Brentford.

And the player has done little to disguise his admiration for the club, admitting he ‘does not need to google Leeds United’.

Player set for Leeds medical on Wednesday

Now, according to trusted transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Leeds could expect to announce the signing of Kristensen on Wednesday.

He claims the deal is now ‘done and confirmed’ with the player due to undergo his medical tests with Leeds tomorrow.

He adds that everything has been completed and is set to be announced, with the player joining Leeds on a permanent deal.

Leeds are understood to be paying £9.7m (€11.5m) for Kristensen. The 24-year-old will likely sign a four-year deal that keeps him at Elland Road until 2026.

And Kristensen may not be the final player Leeds raid from Salzburg either. Reports earlier on Tuesday claim they are also chasing highly-rated attacker Junior Adamu.

Rasmus Kristensen signing places doubts over Luke Ayling

Standing at 6ft 2in, Kristensen should help with Leeds United‘s obvious frailties on set-pieces.

Furthermore, the player boasts an incredible record going forwards, with the right-back plundering 10 goals and adding eight assists playing as an orthodox right-back in a back four.

And for just shy of £10m, this looks an inspired piece of business done by Leeds.

The club certainly needed to strengthening at right-back. Luke Ayling faces four months on the sidelines having undergone knee surgery at the back end of the season.

And versatile star Stuart Dallas will also be out of action for ever longer. The popular Ulsterman sustained a horror injury against Manchester City towards the back end of the season.

Even when Ayling returns, he might find his route back into the Leeds XI blocked by Kristensen.

The former Arsenal man has proved one of Leeds’ best signings in recent years. But his form was up and down – like so many of his teammates – during the 2021/22 campaign.

And if Kristensen proves to be as good as his billing, Ayling may have to re-adjust to life as a squad man rather than a regular once he returns from injury.

Leeds, meanwhile, are also in the market for a new, experienced goalkeeper, with a veteran star seemingly an option.
