Victor Orta has ace up his sleeve as Leeds United weigh up cut-price deal to sign Brazilian winger Renyer

Leeds United are reportedly weighing up an approach for Santos winger Renyer amid claims the teenager is being made available this summer for a significantly-reduced fee.

The Whites have invested heavily on their squad this summer, spending some £94m on the likes of Luis Sinisterra, Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Darko Gyobi, Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen. However, that entire outlay has been offset by the sales of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips.

As such, it seems Leeds are far from done in this summer’s transfer window. To that end, the club are very much intent on signing a new striker to provide cover and competition for Patrick Bamford.

And while Charles De Ketelaere remains their No 1 target, Leeds are making moves for others in the likely event they miss out on the Belgian. To that end, Leeds are reportedly now pursuing a deal for Rennes striker Martin Terrier.

However, they are have shown in the past how they also like signing top young stars to bolster their academy.

Indeed, Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood, Crysencio Summerville and Cody Drameh all played their part last season. And having been signed for lowly sums, this is a policy Leeds will continue to pursue.

Now, with the Premier League allowing for up to five substitutes per game this season, Leeds are looking to add more depth to their options.

And as per Portuguese outlet Record, Leeds are one of four clubs considering an approach for Renyer.

The 19-year-old is regarded as one of Santos’ brightest young prospects. Indeed, he can operate as both a right winger and an attacking midfielder.

Bargain fee for Renyer

However, they are reportedly open to his sale for a reduced £1.7m (€2m). That asking price has, understandably, alerted a string of suitors.

As per SempreMilan, he has been offered to both AC Milan and Fiorentina through Italian intermediaries.

And while neither are yet to make their move, Record claims both Leeds and Benfica are strongly considering approaches.

As per the report, Leeds may have an ace up their sleeve thanks to a crafty plan by Victor Orta. They claim Leeds United could meet Santos’ asking price for the winger, but allow him to remain with the Sao Paulo club for another year.

Under the terms of their reported offer, that would see Renyer move to Elland Road in summer 2023 instead. And that may prove decisive with Santos benefiting from the arrangement.

While the runours are still to be substantiated by a trusted source, the signing may prove smart business by Leeds.

The fee of just £1.7m is an absolute snip in today’s market and appears a low-risk option for Leeds.

Jesse Marsch, meanwhile, has spoken out on Jack Harrison’s future amid speculation over a move to Newcastle.
