Rio Ferdinand gets the price all wrong as he makes transfer prediction over Raphinha

Raphinha, Leeds United winger, celebrates his goal against West Ham during Premier League game at Elland Road

Leeds United winger Raphinha will raise his game to new levels should he secure a summer move away from Elland Road to one of the Premier League’s big-hitters.

The Brazilian, 25, has been Leeds’ most potent attacking threat this season. In the long absences of Patrick Bamford, Raphinha put the club on his back and helped keep their heads above water in the first half of the campaign. Indeed, his nine goals and two assists prior to the Norwich game were proof of that.

His high standards suffered a notable drop since the turn of the year, however. That said, his serious bounce-back display against Norwich last weekend came at just the right time. Indeed, the Brazil winger created the winner for Joe Gelhardt by rounding Tim Krul with a sublime piece of skill.

Raphinha was, cruelly, denied the chance to follow up that display at Wolves on Friday. Missing after a positive Covid test, Raphinha will no doubt have been cheered by the incredible 3-2 comeback win by Leeds.

Those back-to-back successes mean Leeds are seven points clear of relegation trouble.

Despite seeming to be upwardly mobile again, the summer transfer window is likely to see a number of star Leeds names in the headlines.

Plenty has already been written about Kalvin Phillips and a head-turning offer from Aston Villa.

However, they can expect plenty of interest too in Raphinha, with a number of big-name suitors linked.

Now when asked about the 25-year-old, Rio Ferdinand reckons he will only get better if he goes to a bigger team.

However, the pundit also bizarrely suggested a £25m fee for the winger in hawking him to other sides.

He told his YouTube channel: “Yeah, I like him, I like Raphinha, I like the way he plays. I think he had a spell in the season where he was the most decisive player at Leeds.

“If he went to a better team he would go up a level again, I think there’s more to come from him. He will be an interesting player, especially at that valuation, £25m in today’s market, that’s a very good price for someone like him.”

That said, it was claimed recently that a clause in Raphinha’s deal will allow him to leave for a cut-price fee in the event of Leeds going down.

Indeed, the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Liverpool, PSG and Chelsea are all reportedly admirers.

However, Fabrizio Romano raised the possibility of a move to Barcelona earlier this month.

Leeds remain confident of new deal for Raphinha

Raphinha has also registered three goals and two assists for Brazil during his seven outings for his country. As such, he looks likely to be a major player under Tite in the 2022 World Cup later this year.

Despite speculation over his future, Leeds remain confident of tying their star man to a new deal.

That’s after it was reported that they had held positive talks with his agent Deco over recent times.

They want to extend Raphinha’s stay and also tie him to a new deal that makes him their top earner.

His current contract is due to expire in 2024, but Leeds are set to reward him with longer – and more lucrative – terms. It will be a crucial piece of business for United should they get it over the line.

At 25 years old, Raphinha could commit his prime years to Leeds if he puts pen to paper.
