Leeds at risk of devastating double exit as Euro giants set sights on two of Javi Gracia’s best players amid relegation scrap
Leeds United could lose two of their most impressive attackers if they are relegated to the Championship as big clubs in Italy and Germany, as well as Newcastle United, are keeping tabs on them, according to reports.
Leeds currently sit in 16th spot on 29 points. They are just one point above the relegation zone following three defeats on the bounce to Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Fulham.
In those games, Leeds have looked incredibly leaky at the back as they have conceded 13 goals. That includes five against Palace and six against Liverpool.
The Whites are facing a crucial few weeks as they will come up against Leicester City and Bournemouth before facing Manchester City and then Newcastle United.
Javi Gracia will be hoping his team can pick up wins against Leicester and Bournemouth as the following two matches look very tough. But if the Spaniard is unable to prevent relegation to the Championship, then Leeds will be forced to sell some of their top players.
Football Insider provide an insight into which stars might depart Elland Road. The first is Italian winger Willy Gnonto, who has been a revelation for the west Yorkshire outfit this term.
They only spent £3.8million when signing him from FC Zurich, as per the Daily Mail, but he has proven to be a big source of inspiration and creativity whenever he has featured. Gnonto, who is only 19 years of age, has excellent dribbling ability and is also capable of some excellent finishes.
Football Insider report that Leeds will simply have to let Gnonto go in the event they are relegated as he has proven himself to be too good for the Championship.
Two Leeds stars could head abroad this summer
He is being monitored by several of Leeds’ Premier League rivals, although they are not named in the report. It is more likely the starlet will head to Italy, however.
Several of Serie A’s biggest teams are keeping tabs on the situation too and will swoop in if Gnonto becomes available for transfer.
One of them is likely to be Inter Milan, where the teenager came through the ranks before leaving for Zurich in July 2020.
There have also been rumours of Juventus interest in Gnonto.
He could be followed out of Leeds by fellow young winger Crysencio Summerville. A separate update from Football Insider reveals Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund are the main clubs interested in taking Summerville on board.
Both Newcastle and Dortmund have sent scouts to watch the Dutchman in action this term. And those scouts have been impressed by his ability to cause opposition defenders a host of problems.
Summerville announced himself in the Premier League by netting goals in four consecutive games between October 23 and November 12. That included a sensational late winner against Liverpool at Anfield.
Summerville has not been able to score since November, but he remains an exciting talent for the future and Newcastle and Dortmund are resultantly preparing to pounce.
