Fee not justified as former Leeds man bemoans Whites star who ‘hasn’t done enough’

Daniel James, Rodrigo Moreno, Mateusz Klich celebrate for Leeds during 3-3 draw at Villa Parkl

Former Leeds United defender Neil Aspin believes Rodrigo Moreno has not justified the money that was spent on him during his time at Elland Road.

Rodrigo signed for Leeds for £27million in the summer of 2020. Indeed, that sum is the most the Whites have spent on a player in their history.

The Spaniard joined the club with a lot of promise. He contributed to 100 goals in 220 appearances at Valencia, scoring 19 goals in all competitions in his best goalscoring season just prior to signing.

While it was expected that Rodrigo would continue the trend of scoring and assisting in a Leeds shirt, that has not quite happened. Furthermore, Aspin feels that Rodrigo has not lived up to expectation.

“He is a player that was signed for a lot of money, has a big reputation”, he said via Leeds Live.

“I’m not one who wants to criticise players, but he hasn’t done enough since he’s been here.”

Indeed, Rodrigo has contributed to just 13 goals in 51 games since he has been a Leeds player. That tally is below the standard Leeds would have expected of him when he joined.

“We’re expecting more from him. Every time he starts a game, we are expecting something from him,” Aspin added.

“He’s got some ability, but he hasn’t produced it often enough in a Leeds shirt.”

Leeds will no doubt hope that Rodrigo can find the standard of form that attracted them to him.

Rodrigo and Raphinha under the cosh

Another Leeds star that has received criticism of late is Raphinha. Ian Wright felt the Brazilian should have scored in the Whites’ 1-0 loss to Leicester City at the weekend.

“I think Raphinha is somebody who has got to do a lot more. I’m very disappointed with the way he played today,” Wright said.

“I think he has got to score that. He is somebody who needs to do more, a lot more, for me.”

As one of Leeds’ star players, their survival hopes somewhat rest on Raphinha putting in good performances.
