Sources: Leeds Utd perform U-turn with new contract offered to Adam Forshaw
Leeds Utd have offered a new contract to Adam Forshaw despite the midfielder being named on their released list, TEAMtalk understands.
Forshaw was one of the players announced on Leeds’ retained list to leave the club upon expiry of his contract on June 30.
However, Leeds invited Forshaw to pre-season training and have remained in talks over a potential new deal.
We have learned Leeds Utd have offered Forshaw a new contract on reduced terms, with the player now weighing up his options with several other clubs keeping tabs on his situation.
Forshaw, who made 12 appearances in the Premier League last season, has seen his time at Leeds blighted by injuries. However, his experience could prove vital towards Leeds promotion hopes in the Championship next season.
The 31-year-old was part of the last promotion-winning Leeds team under Marcelo Bielsa. He has also won promotion during prior campaigns with Middlesbrough and Brentford in his career.
Leeds are set to lose a number of players following relegation from the Premier League and they could find themselves short of midfield options.
The likes of Marc Roca and Tyler Adams are expected to leave, while loanee Weston McKennie has returned to Juventus following an ill-fated six-month spell in west Yorkshire.
Leeds are still to appoint a new manager following Sam Allardyce’s exit, after failing to retain top-flight status.
However, once a new boss is put in place, he may find Forshaw has already been secured to a surprise new contract.
