Timescale set for Robin Koch return as big update is made on pubis bone surgery

Robin Koch Leeds United captain armband July 2021

Robin Koch has undergone successful surgery on his pubis bone in the United States – with reports from Germany now posting a positive update on the Leeds United defender’s prospective return to action.

The Germany defender has just one Premier League appearance to his name this season after struggling with the problem. Leeds had hoped the situation would resolve itself without the need for surgery. Indeed, Marcelo Bielsa spoke about the “very rebellious injury” that Koch had suffered.

Speaking prior to Saturday’s game at Southampton, Bielsa revealed that Leeds had now resigned themselves to sending the player for an operation.

“[Robin] Koch is in the United States undergoing a small procedure on his pubis,” Bielsa stated.

At the time, not much was known on Koch’s exact location in the USA. However, light has been shed by German newspaper BILD, who also report that Koch has now undergone successful surgery on the pubis bone.

Furthermore, they state his return to action with Leeds should now be a matter of weeks away.

Explaining in more detail, they state the operation was performed at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia by Dr William Meyers.

Meyers is an expert in the field, having previously worked on players from NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB and MLS.

With Jurgen Klopp looking to bolster his attack, a move for Doku looks more likely than Raphinha

They say, following the successful surgery, that Koch will now return to the UK next week and could be back on the pitch in a matter of weeks.

Leeds have suffered in his absence, with fellow defenders Pascal Struijk recently serving a ban at a time when Diego Llorente also spent time on the sidelines.

As a result, they were forced to hand a debut to teenage defender Charlie Cresswell; the defender earning wholesome praise from Bielsa despite the late defeat to West Ham.

Bamford impressed by trio of Leeds youngsters

Meanwhile, Patrick Bamford is tipping a trio of young stars to soon make the first-team breakthrough with Leeds.

Cody Drameh, Sam Greenwood and Lewis Bate all impressed during the international break. Indeed, the trio combined in scoring a goal for England U21s in a clash against Italy.

And on the official Leeds United podcast, actor Matthew Lewis picked that out as his highlight of the week.

He said: “My moment to the week was England’s under-21, the equaliser against Italy, it was made in Leeds.

“We had Cody Drameh on the right, crossed it in, little flick from Sam Greenwood and then Lewis Bate finishes in the bottom left.”

That too caught the eye of Bamford, appearing in his regular guest slot.

And he reckons the trio are pushing hard for a place in the first team at Leeds.

“Yeah, they’re close,” Bamford said. “I think what the gaffer has shown is that anyone who earns their chance will be given it. People who work hard will be given a chance. He’s not afraid to put the young ones in if they deserve it.”
