Leeds United’s reported interest in Otavio appears to have been complicated amid reports that Liverpool are also set to bid for the FC Porto winger.
The Whites are currently scouring the globe for new attacking options with Raphinha seemingly destined to depart. The Whites bought the mercurial Brazilian for a bargain £17m in October 2020, the winger proving a huge success. Indeed, he was the main man as Leeds – just about – successfully avoided the relegation trapdoor.
Indeed, he has a total of 17 goals and 12 assists from 67 appearances for the Whites. That record of a goal involvement every 2.3 games, together with his elevation into the Brazil ranks, means it’s not hard to see why Raphinha is a man in demand.
That chase for his services now appears to be led by Arsenal. With a move to Barcelona seemingly off the table, it is the Gunners who are emerging as frontrunners for the attacker. As such, they reportedly planning a new offer which, they hope, will twist Leeds’ arm.
And while that will leave Leeds with a handsome profit, they are also looking at how best to replace their star man.
Indeed, the likes of Cody Gakpo and Charles de Ketelaere are among the players they are looking to sign.
However, reports in Portugal are pressing the agenda that Leeds also want Otavio.
Liverpool set to muddy the waters
The assist king is already seemingly the subject of a failed £25.7m offer from Leeds, if A Bola are proved correct.
Otavio, who can play as a No 10 or on the wing, laid on 15 goals last season. Therefore, it’s easy to see why Leeds may see him as a strong Raphinha successor.
However, with a exit clause reportedly set at £51m, Leeds will likely have to raise that bid even further.
The Reds have tracked the Brazil-born ace for some time and they will now reportedly make their move.
And they claim the Reds are ready to make a £34m offer of their own for the star.
Furthermore, Otavio’s agent Israel Oliveira is reportedly in England looking to get the deal over the line.
Leeds may struggle to sign Otavio
Regardless of whether the Leeds United interest in Otavio is genuine, it does look a stretch seeing him at Elland Road.
As Porto’s highest earner and a star accustomed to playing in the Champions League, a move to Leeds does look unlikely on the surface.
Furthermore, Leeds’ model means they look to sign players at a younger age, who they can then offload for a profit. Spending huge sums on a 27-year-old would unlikely see them make a quick profit any time soon.
Liverpool eyeing another raid from Porto, following suit from Luis Diaz
Liverpool have reportedly shortlisted Porto attacking midfielder Otavio, although it could take £50million to sign the Brazilian.
Instead, moves for De Ketelaere and Gakpo appear far more likely. Both are at any age where Leeds could sign them for a fee, improve them and potentially make a profit on in years to come.
Furthermore, it does sound very much like his agent is trying to drum up interest in Otavio to try and secure him a move.
However, they may also face a tough battle to land De Ketelaere too if the latest reports are accurate. They state the Belgian has already informed the Whites of his intentions amid links to Elland Road.
