Leeds United are hot on the trail of Tyler Adams amid confirmation from a trusted source that RB Leipzig do plan to sell the midfielder this summer.
The Whites are busy shaping their squad ahead of the new season. And after sailing so close to the relegation wind in 2021/22, they appear keen to learn from past mistakes. As such, supporters will welcome the three signings they have already made.
To that end, Leeds confirmed the signing of Brenden Aaronson just days after safety was confirmed. And the captures of Rasmus Kristensen, also from RB Salzburg, soon followed. Marc Roca was confirmed as their latest addition last week.
Two of those signings have been in their midfield. Given their last midfield addition was way back in January 2018, when Adam Forshaw arrived from Middlesbrough, clearly it was an area that needed attention.
However, Leeds have seemingly not stopped there and are casting their eyes on further midfield additions.
The 23-year-old moved to Leipzig from New York Red Bulls back in 2019. That move reunited him with Jesse Marsch, where the current Leeds coach was working as a No 2 to Ralf Rangnick at the time.
Now in charge at Elland Road, Marsch is keen to work with Adams for a third time.
Now Leeds United interest in Adams has been confirmed by trusted source Florian Plettenberg. The Sky Deutchsland journalist claims the Whites are very much considering a move for Adams.
Tyler Adams seen as Kalvin Phillips replacement
Furthermore, he states that Leipzig are willing to sell if the price is right.
Tweeting, Plettenberg stated: ‘Tyler Adams: Despite the transfer of Aaronson and Roca, the midfielder from Leipzig is – next to other players – on the shortlist of LUFC onfirmed. Leeds is considering the situation of the 23 y/o. Leipzig wants to sell him.’
Leeds are seemingly in the hunt for Adams amid ongoing speculation surrounding Kalvin Phillips.
The midfielder is being strongly tracked by Manchester City, who are reportedly hoping to sign him this summer.
With a £45m-£50m fee being discussed, the midfielder does look likely to move on this summer.
However, City may not have things all their own way with PSG also now plotting a move for the England star.
As confirmed by the Yorkshire Evening Post, officials from the Ligue 1 giants put in a call to the Leeds board on Friday.
And while they are yet to make an official bid, they did enquire as to his situation and Leeds’ valuation.
Indeed, interest from PSG could yet force up the asking price of the homegrown Leeds star.
And while the jury is out on whether Adams will quite be as good as Phillips, he is a player of undoubted quality.
Adams also has Champions League experience with Leipzig, having also appeared 75 times in the Bundesliga.
Also boasting 30 caps for the USMNT, Adams is cut from a similar cloth as Phillips. Furthermore, at 23, the New York-born star has plenty of room to grow and improve at Leeds United.
