Caglar Soyuncu is reportedly “thrilled” by the idea of playing for Inter Milan, who have added the Leicester City centre-back to their shortlist.
Soyuncu has been a Leicester City player since 2018, when he joined from Freiburg. Since then, he has accumulated 122 appearances for the club. Of those, 40 came last season in what was a busy campaign.
Despite reaching a European semi-final, Leicester tailed off in the Premier League. Injuries to players around Soyuncu certainly did not help their case. As a result, they finished eighth in the table, missing out on continental involvement next season.
Consequently, some of their players could be on their way out this summer. The defence in particular is an area that Brendan Rodgers could adjust.
One year away from the end of his contract, Soyuncu is someone whose future could come into question. If Leicester cannot renew his deal, they would be best off selling him for a fee this summer while they can.
The 26-year-old could have high-calibre clubs going after his signature. For example, Gazzetta Dello Sport are reminding that he is on the shortlist of Serie A runners-up Inter Milan.
Inter are bracing themselves for the departure of one centre-back this summer. First, it was thought they would sacrifice Alessandro Bastoni. But on the contrary, he wants to stay at the club.
Hence, if they are to make a major sale from the back three, it will be either Stefan de Vrij or Milan Skriniar to make way. Both are good players, but the latter seems the most marketable.
Indeed, Skriniar is reportedly a target for Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. If he leaves, Inter will have to find a replacement.
In that regard, they have been plotting a move for Torino stopper Gleison Bremer. However, their fellow Serie A side feel they could get better offers from the Premier League.
Therefore, Inter are expanding their shortlist. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, also in contention to join them are Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic and Leicester’s Soyuncu.
Both players would welcome Inter as a next step for their careers. In fact, each would be “thrilled” at the prospect of signing on at San Siro.
Soyuncu made to wait for ideal Inter move
If Soyuncu was to make the move abroad, he would have Champions League football on offer, which Leicester cannot match.
Any switch to Inter is dependent on Skriniar moving on from there first. If he does depart, Soyuncu could be a good value-for-money replacement.
Testing himself in Serie A would also be a good challenge for the Turkey international. He would be able to prove his tactical expertise.
Soyuncu should be a good match for Inter’s back three. However, he will have to wait and see what happens with Skriniar before he can begin dreaming of a move there.
