Leicester hold meeting with Italian club to sort out future of Chelsea-linked Caglar Soyuncu – report

Leicester City officials have reportedly met with their counterparts at an Italian club to talk about a deal for Caglar Soyuncu, who is rumoured to be on Chelsea’s wish list.
Soyuncu had a great campaign in 2020-21, making 32 appearances and helping Leicester to win the FA Cup for the first time in their history. 23 of his 32 outings came in the Premier League as Brendan Rodgers’ team finished fifth.
Soyuncu played 41 games in the season just finished, although things didn’t go as well for the centre-back. He came in for criticism after looking less solid and making occasional mistakes in defence.
Despite this, the Turk’s stock remains high and he is picking up interest from the Premier League and other divisions.
According to a recent report from Spanish source AS, Chelsea, Manchester City and Juventus would all like to sign Soyuncu.
Leicestershire Live provide an update on the 26-year-old’s future, while citing Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
They claim Foxes chiefs held a meeting with representatives from Inter Milan earlier this week to speak about Soyuncu’s future.
Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio was in London to discuss a potential return for Romelu Lukaku at the San Siro. While he was there, he met with Leicester to ask if Soyuncu is available for transfer.
Caglar Soyuncu eyed as star’s replacement
The Nerazzurri know centre-half Stefan de Vrij is likely to move on this summer. And they have earmarked Turkey international Soyuncu as a potential replacement.
The report doesn’t reveal Leicester’s stance on their player, or how big of an offer it would take for them to sell.
But Soyuncu’s contract situation means a summer exit is a possibility. He penned a five-year deal when joining from Freiburg in 2018.
That runs until 2023 and a renewal is yet to come into sight. As a result, this summer could be Leicester’s best opportunity to sell to avoid a free-transfer exit next year.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Soyuncu left for Inter in the coming months. His stock has risen while in England and he may perform well for the Italian giants.
Leicester are known to sell to bigger teams, as long as they receive a decent fee in return. Harry Maguire, N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez are prime examples of this.
Therefore, we can see Soyuncu going to Inter if they decide to reinvest a substantial portion of the De Vrij money.
Meanwhile, Foxes midfielder Youri Tielemans is part of a two-man transfer wish list for Arsenal.
