Fiorentina are ready to present an offer to Leicester City for the signing of Torino loanee Dennis Praet, according to reports in Italy.
Praet joined Leicester in the summer of 2019, going on to make 36 appearances across all competitions in his debut season. However, his gametime reduced in 2020-21, during which he only played 24 times.
Subsequently, Leicester loaned the former Sampdoria man back to a Serie A side, Torino, for the season just gone.
When back in Italy, the Belgium international made 24 appearances. Although that was the same number as his last term with Leicester, he was involved in a greater proportion of their matches, given that Torino were involved in just two competitions compared to four for the Foxes.
Besides, injuries prevented him from featuring more. When available, the Belgium international was a mainstay of the Torino side.
Hence, Praet seems ready to settle back in Serie A. However, there is a chance he might not be playing for Torino by doing so.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Praet is now wanted by Fiorentina instead. In fact, La Viola are willing to make an offer of around €7m (£6m) in the coming days.
Alternatively, they may suggest to Leicester a deal by which they would take Praet on loan with an obligation to buy, depending on certain conditions.
Leicester could cash in on Dennis Praet
Fiorentina are aiming to strengthen their midfield this summer, after failing to purchase loanee Lucas Torreira from Arsenal. Interestingly, they are also hoping to sign Rolando Mandragora from Juventus, after his loan spell with Torino last season.
Hence, they could end up taking two players who were teammates in the same department for Torino in the season just gone.
Leicester are unlikely to object to a permanent exit for Praet. They have him under contract until 2024, but he does not seem to be favoured by Brendan Rodgers. There are a few other options in their existing squad.
Therefore, cashing in by sending Praet to a country where he has a market will be a sensible operation.
