Leicester transfer news: Dennis Praet ‘wants to stay’ in Italy amid impending two-way transfer saga
Leicester City star Dennis Praet ‘wants to stay’ in Italy after the expiry of his current loan deal with Torino, per a report – but it may not be with them.
Praet has spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan in Serie A, plying his trade for Torino. The midfielder has endured a stellar campaign with the team currently sitting in 10th position.
Praet has been a regular feature in the Torino squad and has made 21 appearances in all competitions so far.
During his time on loan, he has contributed to four goals, comprising of two assists and two goals. The midfielder moved to Italy’s top flight as he was seemingly out of favour with boss Brendan Rodgers.
His current club only temporarily have his services but the deal included an option to buy worth around £12million.
Area Napoli are now reporting that the Italian club are keen to retain Praet but not on a permanent basis.
They would rather extend his loan deal for a further year and then agree to an option to buy worth around just £8million. It also claims that the player ‘wants to stay’ in Italy.
The report also states that Leicester and Torino are ‘having problems finding an agreement’. This is likely because of the revised offer the Italian side have suggested to Rodgers’ team.
If the Foxes agree to cut their value of Praet, it would be a steal on Torino’s behalf, as a player of the 28-year-old’s versatility is hard to come by.
Other potential suitors for Praet
With the Belgium international being available for such a minimal fee, there are bound to be other clubs toying with the idea of making a bid.
According to the report, Italian giants Napoli are one of the teams with their eyes on Praet.
Napoli will be losing Lorenzo Insigne this summer as the winger has agreed to a five year deal with Toronto FC in the MLS.
They will need someone of top quality to fill his boots as he has been a long lasting servant to the Blues.
The report states that the Italian giants could ‘test the ground’ in regards to a deal, depending on how the Torino situation develops.
Their manager, Luciano Spalletti, has rated Praet ‘for years’ and ‘would appreciate his versatility’ the report says, which showcases Spalletti’s desire to make a move happen.
Wherever Praet ends up this summer, a price of £8million is a bargain in this transfer market.
