Leicester keen to tie homegrown star and ‘future captain’ down to new contract

Leicester midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is set to be rewarded with a new contract after becoming one of the first names on the team sheet for the Foxes this season.

The midfielder only made his first Premier League start for the club on December 5 but has cemented his place in the side. His form has lead boss Brendan Rogers to tout him as a future captain and he is keen to lock him into a new deal.

The 23-year-old is under contract until the summer of 2024 so there is no real rush for Leicester to tie him to a new one. However Rogers feels he is worthy of an improved deal.

The last contract Dewsbury-Hall signed was back in 2020 before he was sent out on loan to Luton. He had only made two first-team appearances back then and his pay packet would have reflected that.

Now he is established in the Leicester side the Daily Mail say a pay rise is on the cards for the homegrown star.

Midfield shake-up planned

Foxes boss Rogers clearly rates him very highly. If he remains in charge in the summer then Rogers is planning to shake up his squad.

Changes in midfield are planned but that will not involve moving Dewsbury-Hall out of the club.

The Mail report that at least one midfielder will be sold and Youri Tielemans is the most likely to move on. The former Monaco star has just one year remaining on his deal and there is no sign of him penning a new one.

With that in mind Leicester need to cash in soon and there is a good chance that will happen in the summer. Tielemans is also struggling to command a place in the Foxes midfield now that Rogers has tinkered with his tactics.

Rogers has switched from two holding midfielders to one, with two number eights either side in a midfield three. And there is no room for Tielemans.

There will be no shortage of clubs willing to snap him up though. He remains a clash act and Manchester City and Real Madrid are among the interested parties.

Wilfred Ndidi is another midfielder to be linked away with Aston Villa known to be keen. Indeed recent interest from Villa prompted Rogers to put a £50m price tag on his head.

Future Leicester captain

Despite rumours of players moving on., Dewsbury-Hall will be staying put. Rogers believes the late developer is a future Foxes captain as he has all the attributes needed.

“I think he’s a captain at some time in the future here,” said Rodgers. “He leads, he inspires, he’ll say what he thinks. He’s also very respectful and very humble. He’s a great ambassador for the club and the academy.”

Foxes starlet James Justin and Wesley Fofana have signed new deals this season. And now Dewsbury-Hall is set to follow suit.
