Positive Leicester City moves as Foxes head the hunt for Inter Milan star
Leicester City are looking to make positive moves in the January transfer window as Brendan Rodgers’ side are in pole position to sign Matias Vecino.
Since their historic Premier League winning season in 2015/16, Leicester have had two top-six finishes. The Foxes finished fifth in both the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.
However, this season, Leicester have dropped off the pace somewhat. Indeed, they currently sit 10th in the Premier League, having won seven games.
The midfield has suffered of late, as both Youri Tielemans and James Maddison have missed periods of the season through injury.
What’s more, Wilfred Ndidi will now miss up to a month, as he heads off to play for Nigeria at AFCON. As such, adding some cover to the midfield would be a great help in Leicester’s bid to climb the table.
A report from Caught Offside claims that Leicester are in pole position to sign Vecino from Inter Milan. Not only would the 30-year-old provide good midfield cover, he is also a vastly experienced professional.
The Inter man has made 56 appearances for Uruguay, scoring three goals. What’s more, he has been a regular feature for Inter since joining in 2017, until his gametime began dropping this season.
Vecino crops up with the odd goal for Inter, having scored 10 times in 119 appearances. However, his nature of battling hard for possession in the midfield has likely interested Rodgers.
Pontus Jansson linked to several Premier League clubs
Brentford captain Pontus Jansson has been linked with Everton, Leicester and Newcastle.
Inter are reportedly happy to let Vecino move on, as his contract is up at the end of the season.
As such, he would likely move for free, which should make the move an easy one for Leicester.
Vecino joined on Leicester shortlist
The Foxes are also reportedly interested in Club Brugge star Charles De Ketelaere. The Belgian has scored nine goals in the Belgian top flight this season.
The 20-year-old is able to be deployed anywhere in the final third, as well as in midfield. That sort of versatility would stand him in good stead in the Premier League.
De Ketelaere has also made four appearances for Belgium, scoring once. Breaking into the top rated international side in the world is no small feat.
Leicester do, however, face competition from Tottenham and Everton for the Belgian.
