Leicester City transfer latest: Charles de Ketelaere race hots up but Foxes said to be in ‘pole position’

Charles De Ketelaere, Andreas Skov Olsen, Club Brugge, April 2022.

Leicester City are leading the race to sign Charles de Ketelaere and have been told they could land the “next Kevin de Bruyne” if they can get a deal over the line.

That is some statement but the Belgian journalist Alexandre Braeckman is in no doubt over the midfielder’s future. Now it just remains to be seen where the 21-year-old will end up playing his football. But Leicester are well in the hunt.

Indeed reports in the Gazzetta Dello Sport have claimed that the Foxes are in the box seat. They report that AC Milan are also interested but Leicester will outbid them to win the day.

De Ketelaere plays his football in Belgium with Club Brugge and has just had a great season. He fired home 18 goals and provided another nine assists in 48 appearances.

Such form has alerted a number of clubs throughout Europe, including Leicester. Manchester City have also been linked in the past but are not mentioned this time.

It appears to be a straight scrap between Leicester and Milan if Gazzetta are to be believed. The article does not mention a price tag but going off previous reports Brugge are after £29.5million.

Such a figure should not be an issue for Leicester, but it could be for Milan, who will struggle. There has also been talk of De Ketelaere staying with Club Brugge for one more season. That would give him time to develop further before taking the next step.

Arsenal looking into Belgium duo

Arsenal are looking into Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans and Brighton's Leandro Trossard.

However if the big offers come in then both De Ketelaere and Brugge are sure to accept. Whatever the outcome, Braeckman says De Ketelaere is a star of the future.

Charles de Ketelaere the “next Kevin de Bruyne”

“To be honest with you, I think De Ketelaere could become the next De Bruyne,” he told Pianeta Milan. “His game vision is brilliant; he is fast, technically interesting, he can score quite easily. He can play behind a striker, but he can also be employed as a false nine or a striker.

“His vision in making assists is incredible. De Bruyne looks after him in the national team; I think he knows what he can do.

“De Ketelaere is a really incredible talent, an intelligent guy, also very professional. He has the mentality and the ability to become a world-class player. Milan would be a big step forward for him.”

Leicester are still waiting to see what happens with Youri Tielemans and that could influence their decision. The midfielder is on the radar of Arsenal but a deal has yet to be hammered out.

It remains to be seen if Leicester will move for De Ketelaere regardless. However he is a top talent and if he turns out to be half as good as De Bruyne, Leicester would have an amazing player.
