Leicester transfer news: Dortmund midfielder to sign in act of instant revenge as Man Utd, Arsenal target heads other way

Leicester City are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud in the summer, who could be available on a free transfer.
The German could come in as a replacement for Youri Tielemans, who has been heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal or Manchester United recently, while Dortmund themselves have now entered the race.
It will be a big challenge for Brendan Rodgers to replace the Foxes’ star man, but Dahoud represents an excellent potential option.
It is believed that Napoli and AC Milan are also interested in a move for the German international, so Leicester will face competition for Dahoud’s signature.
Since joining the Foxes in 2019, Tielemans has arguably been one f Leicester’s most important players, making 186 appearances across all competitions and scoring 28 goals and making 25 assists in the process.
The Belgium international has been key to the club’s recent success, playing a big role in their 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns where they secured a fifth-place finish. He also scored the winning goal in Leicester’s FA Cup victory in 2021.
However, Leicester are now resigned to losing Tielemans at the end of the season, after he has so far refused to pen a new deal at the King Power Stadium.
Barring any last-minute twists, it seems inevitable that he will leave in the summer, with the Manchster United and Arsenal battling to sign him on a free transfer. Although, interestingly, Borussia Dortmund are now thought to be leading the race, as reported by TEAMtalk on Tuesday.
Dahoud is a solid, cheap replacement for Tielemans
According to German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, Leicester City are interested in signing Dahoud from Dortmund this summer, who, as mentioned, should be available as a free transfer.
Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl recently provided an update on the 27-year-old’s future, amid speculation he could leave.
He said: “I had a very open and honest conversation with Mo [Dahoud] last week. I informed him that we will not renew his contract in the summer.
“Mo has been with us for 6 years now, he’s a very good footballer and I really have a very high opinion of him on a sporting and personal level.
“Nevertheless, we decided to take this step.”
Dahoud has featured times 137 times for the German giants since joining the club back in 2017, playing his part in winning one DFB-Pokal and a DFL Supercup.
Although, if Dortmund are successful in signing Tielemans this summer, you would argue that they’d be making a massive upgrade, for no transfer fee.
Dahoud won’t score goals like Tielemans
Dahoud does have some similar attributes to Tielemans – with the ability to play as a defensive or central midfielder.
He is good in possession, making an average of 0.6 key passes per game, but his best attributes are in breaking up opposition attacks.
This season, Dahoud has averaged 1.6 successful tackles per match, along with 0.8 assists; although it’s worth mentioning he has only played five times in the Bundesliga so far.
But, with just five goals in the last six years, he won’t be able to compete with Tielemans’ goal-scoring, who has netted some stunning strikes for Leicester over the years.
Nevertheless, with Leicester resigned to losing Tielemans on a free transfer in the summer, they need a cheap replacement with experience at the highest level, and Dahoud certainly meets that category.
