Leicester City and Torino are reported to be back in talks over the future of midfielder Dennis Praet, who could be set for another loan spell with the Serie A club.
The future of Praet remains up in the air after his loan spell with Torino came to an end. The Italians had the option to buy for £12.5million but for one reason or another decided against it. That came as a surprise as Praet’s spell in Turin was a successful one.
The 28-year-old did suffer a couple of injuries during the loan spell. That may have put Torino off a permanent deal. They clearly rate him highly though as Praet played in every game he was available for. He made a total of 24 appearances.
Now the Italian journalist Alessandro Baretti claims a deal could be back on. He has been quoted as telling Tuttosport that negotiations are back underway.
However it is not regarding a permanent deal, but another loan. It could well be that Torino want to make sure there are no further injury issues before committing long-term.
It also looks as though there is another option to buy at the end of the loan. This time for £10million. Baretti points out that the Torino coach Ivan Juric rates the player highly and wants him back. It is suggested the deal could be done before Torino start pre-season training.
There is plenty of talking to be done but negotiations are said to be back underway at least. Praet would be open to a return to Italy with Torino but also has other options.
Fellow Serie A side Napoli have also been linked in the past. However it would appear that Torino are back in the box seat. They just need to hammer out a deal.
“Juric wants to start again with the Belgian, who is currently back at Leicester,” Baretti told Tuttosport. “And he wants him from the start of the training camp. It is up to the director Vagnati to make the player available.
“The two clubs are trying to agree on a loan with a mandatory buy-back of 10 million.”
Dennis Praet move away the best way forward
It would be best for everyone involved if a deal can be hammered out as soon as possible. A permanent deal would be perfect but that looks to be off the table for now.
Praet is keen to play regular first-team football next season and is unlikely to get it with the Foxes. There has been talk of the 28-year-old getting more opportunities should Youri Tielemans move on.
However that deal is not done yet and even if he does go a replacement will be brought in. That will leave Praet in the same position and another move, either permanent or loan, is the best way forward.
