Brendan Rodgers puts European giants on alert as new Leicester system makes exit a formality

Brendan Rodgers has put Europe’s major sides on alert as a new Leicester system has made an exit a formality, a report has claimed.

It’s been a poor season for Rodgers. His Leicester side sit 12th in the Premier League table, with just glory in the Europa Conference League left to play for. As results have failed to turn around, he has tried to tinker with their set-up.

In particular, the Foxes boss has switched from two holding midfielders to just one, with two number eights either side in a midfield three.

Performances have since improved. However, there are side-effects.

As per the Leicester Mercury, it leaves Youri Tielemans without a position in the side.

Wilfred Ndidi and Papy Mendy are preferred in the deeper role, which is where the 24-year-old is used to playing.

He is better suited there than as a number eight, which he has now been tasked with.

And with that not working out, hence his drop to the bench against Arsenal at the weekend, his King Power days look numbered.

The report claims Rodgers is seeking a new signing to fit his updated system. That suggests Tielemans is nearing a departure.

His contract expires in 2023, so it makes sense for Leicester to cash in and reinvest this summer.

It’s noted that he can ‘get lost amid the sea of bodies’ playing where he currently is as his work-rate doesn’t suit the position.

The Foxes will be able to secure a solid sum of cash for Tielemans which will then give Rodgers more options in the transfer market.

Leicester will have queue for Tielemans

There will be no shortage of suitors lining up to sign the Belgium international.

According to Foot Mercato, two sides are showing particularly strong interest in him. Man City are battling Real Madrid to win the race for his transfer.

A move to Man City would keep Tielemans in the Premier League, but elevate him to a higher level. The current champions feel he would fit perfectly in their project and have been in touch with his representatives in recent months.

Pep Guardiola is believed to be an admirer of the 24-year-old. Therefore, City could try to take him from their fellow Premier League side.

However, the report also warns that Real Madrid would be Tielemans’ dream option. He has never played in La Liga before, but they could give him the opportunity.
