Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ready to let a top young Liverpool talent move to Borussia Dortmund in his efforts to finally bring Jude Bellingham to Merseyside.
The Reds are in the running to sign the England midfielder in 2023, along with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Dortmund are said to have set an asking price of £131.6million for a player they signed for £30m from Birmingham in 2020.
And their CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed that talks with the player over his future will take place after the World Cup.
That hefty asking price may be too steep for many of Europe’s biggest hitters. However, The Sun claims that Dortmund are keen on making a move for Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton as part of any Bellingham deal.
That would appear to give the Reds a massive headstart on their rivals in the race to sign one of the best young midfielders in world football.
Morton is currently on loan at Championship side Blackburn Rovers, where he’s made 20 appearances so far this season.
The 20-year-old is similar in the way he plays to Bellingham, being a creative box-to-box midfielder.
The move would then allow Dortmund to develop another English youngster to eventually fill the boots of their current midfield talisman.
Morton still has three years left on the Liverpool deal he signed in January last year. So, with that in mind, the Reds could demand a reasonable fee as part of the swap.
He made his senior debut last December in the Reds’ 2-2 away draw against Tottenham and also came off the bench during their 4-0 demolition of Arsenal.
And Klopp clearly rates the talented youngster, having started him in two Champions League games last season.
Morton could follow in Bellingham footsteps
The Sun goes on to report that while Morton is not looking to leave, his hands could be tied if Dortmund really want him and Bellingham gives the nod to move to Merseyside.
Klopp is on the hunt for new midfield recruits as he looks to revamp an area of the team that has struggled this season.
He does have other targets, though, if a deal for Bellingham fails to go through.
Youri Tielemans on a free from Leicester has been strongly mooted. Meanwhile, Klopp is a big fan of Benfica star Enzo Fernandez, who is rated at around £44m.
However, the subject of high transfer fees could be something that no longer causes concern at Anfield.
Liverpool are reportedly the subject of fresh takeover interest after an enquiry from the eighth-richest man in the world, the multi-billionaire Mukesh Ambani.
The Reds now face a break from league and cup action due to the World Cup in Qatar. Indeed, their next game is not until December 20 when they host Manchester City in the Carabao Cup 4th round.
