Liverpool transfers: Agent flies in with ‘full agreement’ close for major signing as Fabrizio Romano reveals star is ‘prepared to leave’

Liverpool will reportedly seal the signing of Alexis Mac Allister by next week after reports in Argentina backed up Fabrizio Romano claims over the £69.4m transfer.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate to bolster his midfield this season after a downturn in fortunes this season. Normally one of their strong suits, Liverpool have surprisingly found themselves overrun in the engine room this season.

That was perhaps best (or worst!) exemplified by the way relegation-haunted Leeds managed to win at Anfield back in November. And a 3-0 loss to Brighton in January also highlighted those struggles.

Those losses are two of nine defeats Liverpool have suffered in the Premier League this season. The outcome of that means the club will finish in sixth place and will play in the Europa League next season.

Klopp, though, is already working hard to fix the issues in midfield. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner will all depart as free agents with their contracts coming to an end.

And with Arthur Melo sent packing back to Juventus, Liverpool are planning at least three new additions in their engine room.

Now it seems that their first capture is on the cusp of being finalised in the form of Mac Allister.

The Argentine star has enjoyed a stellar season, winning the World Cup with his country and also scoring 12 times for Brighton. That goals thrust from midfield is something Liverpool have badly lacked since Philippe Coutinho’s 2018 departure.

However, reports earlier this week said the Reds are close to agreeing a £69.4m fee. And the 24-year-old has already ‘said his goodbyes’ to the AMEX after Brighton’s 1-1 draw with Man City on Wednesday night.

Mac Allister agent flies in to seal Liverpool transfer

Now it seems Liverpool’s prospects of securing the signing are gathering pace. And what has been described as a ‘full agreement’ for Mac Allister could be signed, sealed and delivered by as early as next week with his agent due to arrive for talks.

The latest on the saga is provided by journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, of TyC Sports. Well connected over the story and often first with updates on the saga, he claims the midfielder’s father and agent, Carlos, will fly into Merseyside next week to conclude the deal.

With a fee with Brighton now agreed, it will now be left to discuss personal terms around his son’s transfer. And per the journalist, Mac Allister will reportedly sign a five-year deal to 2028 worth £150,000 a week.

That will treble the 24-year-old’s current salary at the AMEX and help take his career to the next level.

His move to Anfield will end a productive three-year spell on the south coast. Making 111 appearances, Mac Allister has scored 20 goals, weighing in with seven assists.

The imminent deal is also confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

The trusted Italian journalist also believes the Reds will likely soon wrap up a deal. And the star will play in his final Brighton game on Sunday at Aston Villa.

He stated: “Alexis Mac Allister expected to bid his farewell to Brighton fans after final game after his fantastic experience at the club since 2020.

“He’s prepared to leave the club in June with Liverpool frontrunners. They are close to completing the deal and are waiting on final details.”
