Ancelotti plots Real Madrid ‘offensive’ with strange fee cited in Liverpool raid

Liverpool full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson celebrating 2021

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has set his sights on a huge Liverpool raid, and a curious fee has been cited as being the backbone of a potential deal, according to a report.

With bitter rivals Barcelona struggling under the weight of their mammoth debt, Real Madrid are positioned to dominate Spanish domestic football in the coming years. Of Course, local rivals Atletico stand in their way, but what was once a three-horse race has been reduced to two.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Real kept their transfer powder relatively dry. As such, they have been tipped to make several big name splashes in upcoming windows.

The likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are regularly linked with moving to the Bernabeu as free agents. But according to Spanish outlet Fichajes (via the Liverpool Echo) a superstar defensive addition is also on their mind.

A report in September revealed Los Blancos’ interest in Liverpool ace, Trent Alexander-Arnold. The 23-year-old is arguably one of the world’s finest right-backs at present. From an attacking standpoint alone, he is unparalleled.

Fichajes put more meat on the bones, stating an ‘Ancelotti offensive’ could materialise in the 2022 summer window.

The club’s interest in Alexander-Arnold is described as an ‘open secret’. However, citing information from transfer specialist Ekrem Konur, Real are now prepared to ‘take action’.

The article does acknowledge the ‘operation’ is not a simple one. As understatements go, that is a big one.

Liverpool join the race for Monaco midfielder Aurelian Tchouameni

Liverpool have reportedly joined the race with Chelsea and Juventus for Monaco midfielder Aurelian Tchouameni, with more news on Karim Adeyemi and Antonio Rudiger.

Alexander-Arnold has shown no desire to leave his boyhood club and signed a new long-term deal in July. Furthermore, there has been zero indication either Liverpool or Jurgen Klopp would consider sanctioning a sale.

Nonetheless, the article claims Alexander-Arnold’s price stands at €75m (£64m). Given Alexander-Arnold’s output, top level experience and age, that figure seems noticeably low.

Unless a change of heart occurs, it doesn’t appear likely Ancelotti’s ‘offensive’ will succeed any time soon.

Liverpool legend talks up Mbappe swoop

Meanwhile, former Liverpool striker Ian Rush believes the club should look to sign young talent in the summer, and claimed Kylian Mbappe would be perfectly suited to Jurgen Klopp’s system.

Liverpool are thought to be keen admirers of PSG phenom Mbappe. The Frenchman will be available for free in July once his contract expires.

Rush told the Daily Mail: “I think if you look age-wise, Mbappe is absolutely flying. He would suit Liverpool. [Erling] Haaland is also scoring for fun.

“But they have to fit into Liverpool’s style of play and Mbappe would certainly do that. He is improving and will get even better.

“You can get an out-and-out goalscorer but if you don’t provide them they don’t score. But Mbappe makes goals as well as scoring them.”
