Jurgen Klopp solves Liverpool midfield problem with Brazilian flying in to sign season-long loan deal

Jurgen Klopp is set to solve his midfield problem with the signing of Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus, claims a report.

The 26-year-old Brazilian, who has not featured for Juve this season is heading to England for a medical. It’s a name that has come out of the blue for Liverpool, with a number of other targets linked to the club.

Gianluca Di Marzio broke the story on Thursday morning with the player set to fly to Liverpool on Thursday. And the reporter is clear that a loan deal is “all done”.

Ian Doyle from the Liverpool Echo is not so confident about a deal. He claims the Reds “continue to assess their options” but “looking” to sign the defensive midfielder.

Liverpool will have no option to buy Arthur, according to Fabrizio Romano. The deal with the Serie A side will be a straight loan until the end of the season.

Klopp has well documented midfield problems with injuries to Curtis Jones, Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. And to make matters worse Jordan Henderson was forced off after 71 minutes of the dramatic win over Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Klopp admitted afterwards that the England man suffered a hamstring strain.

“We have another problem with Hendo. He left after feeling his hamstring, that is obviously not helpful,” Klopp told BT Sport.

And the Anfield boss was typically pessimistic about the club getting in reinforcements before Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

Klopp was not hopeful of a deal

“I don’t think so,” Klopp said on a possible midfield arrival. “But as long as there’s time we should not close the door completely.

“Obviously Hendo’s hamstring [injury] is not helpful.”

Everton and Arsenal have been linked with a move for the player this window. The arrival of Leandro Paredes, a player linked with the Reds, has meant Juve were happy to offload Arthur.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Everton made contact about the chance to sign Arthur. They were looking at a loan, while Arsenal were said to be interested in January and earlier in the summer.

Arthur arrived at Juventus in 2020 from Barcelona for an initial €72m fee with another €10 due on add-ons.

Arthur played 63 games, scoring one goal and grabbing one assist.
