Youssoufa Moukoko has made little secret of his true desire amid links with a move to the Premier League with Liverpool.
Moukoko, who recently turned 18, has been establishing himself as a bright prospect with Borussia Dortmund. This season, the attacker has scored six goals from 22 appearances in all competitions up until the break for the World Cup.
Germany subsequently called him up for the tournament in Qatar. He came on as a late substitute in their opening defeat to Japan.
The next challenge for Moukoko to focus on will be Germany’s game against Spain on November 27. But in the build-up to that game, his future at club level has come into focus again.
With a contract expiring at the end of the season, Moukoko has attracted interest from a number of clubs. Liverpool have regularly been linked with him, for example.
The Premier League side would be able to sign the teenager on a pre-contract agreement from January. However, discussions over his future are continuing.
Indeed, Borussia Dortmund would like Moukoko to sign a contract extension with them. Beyond then, they could nurture his talents further before selling him for a bigger sum.
Promisingly for the Bundesliga outfit, Moukoko has now admitted he is eager to stay exactly where he is.
It will come as a particular boost for Borussia Dortmund, given that Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich have been showing an increasing interest in snapping him up.
Moukoko told RND: “I feel so comfortable at BVB. I love the club. I’d really love to stay at Borussia Dortmund.
“I want to understand what kind of project and perspective the club will offer me. It’s an important point.”
Moukoko starting to cement importance to Borussia Dortmund
As well as Liverpool and Bayern Munich, Moukoko has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona.
However, Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to tie him down for the future. It might be the best place for him to keep developing for now – and they are still a respected club of a high level.
In total, he has already surpassed 50 appearances for the German club, which is an accomplishment worthy of recognition at his age.
There could be many more to come for Moukoko before he takes the next step in his career. To convince him fully, though, Dortmund might need to ensure he is a central figure to their project over the next few years.
With his recent form – he also has six assists to his name this season – Moukoko is beginning to indicate that he will deserve such a status.
