Bacjetic reveals one player made snubbing Manchester United for Liverpool ‘the only choice’ for him

Liverpool youngster Stefan Bacjetic has explained why he chose to join the Reds over bitter rivals Manchester United in a recent interview.
The 18-year-old midfielder has been one of the few positives for the Merseyside club this season, who currently sit in a disappointing sixth place in the Premier League table.
Bacjetic is yet not the finished article but could become one of Liverpool’s most important players in the future, if his progress continues on its current trajectory.
It’s no secret that Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his midfield ahead of next season. Thiago, Jordan Henderson and James Milner are all arguably past their prime, while Naby Keita is set to leave Anfield at the end of the campaign.
With that in mind, the German coach has made Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jude Bellingham his number-one target, but he may already have his ideal midfield partner in Bacjetic, already at the club.
Liverpool are set to play Man Utd at Anfield on Sunday, as Jurgen Klopp’s side looks to reignite their push for European football next season.
Bacjetic has featured eight times for the Reds this season, scoring one goal so far and has put in some admirable performances, so it seems likely he will be involved in the derby.
Liverpool was ‘the only choice’ for Bacjetic
Bacjetic had many admirers across Europe after impressing as a junior for Celta Vigo and when he turned 16, a host of English clubs made an approach, with Man Utd initially leading the race.
However, the youngster has revealed that everything changed after one conversation, which convinced him to join Liverpool.
“When I heard that Liverpool wanted to sign me, there was nobody else to decide on. This was the only one,” Bacjetic said.
The midfielder is looking forward to the match against the Red Devils on Sunday, which could prove to be a monumental encounter in the context of the season.
“It’s the English ‘Clasico’, no? It’s a massive game,” he added.
Then, when pushed on the alleged interest of Man Utd, Bacjetic replied: “I’m at Liverpool now, I’m just focusing on that and I don’t want to talk about other clubs”
Thiago connection ‘massive ‘ for Bacjetic
Liverpool always had an advantage in their pursuit of Bacjetic due to the player already having a connection with Thiago.
The midfielder’s mother is Serbian, but his father, Serdan Bacjetic, is Spanish and a former Celta Vigo player and now youth coach. He also once played with Thiago’s dad, Mazinho, at the Spanish Club.
Bacjetic and Thiago never met before his move to Anfield, but the youngster allegedly admired the 30-year-old and admitted he has watched on in awe during training sessions this season.
He said: “Since I came here, since I trained that first day, I have always talked to him (Thiago). I’m Spanish, so I wanted to speak and he has been helping me a lot,” he explains.
“Thiago has been massive for me, to give me confidence. He introduced me to the other players and I am learning a lot from his game. It is all so good.”
Since arriving in 2021, Bacjetic has already made a big impression on the Liverpool players and supporters. If he keeps up his current form, there is no reason why he can’t become a superstar.
