European giants ‘worried about Liverpool’ in battle for nine-figure transfer

Borussia Dortmund believe Liverpool may make a move for Jude Bellingham, a report claims, which has prompted them to accelerate his contract talks.

Bellingham has been lined up for a return to English football ever since he left Birmingham City in 2020. Despite links with Premier League clubs then, he opted to head abroad for an experience with Borussia Dortmund.

His time in Germany so far has shown why many have rated him so highly in his blossoming career. Still only 18 years old, Bellingham already has 75 Dortmund appearances to his name and 10 England caps.

He could be a star for club and country for years to come – but which club he will be representing in the long-term remains up for question.

Dortmund have him under contract until 2025, but suitors back in his homeland won’t be forgetting about him. Therefore, the Bundesliga outfit are bracing themselves for bids.

Indeed, according to Football Insider, a Dortmund source has admitted they are “worried about Liverpool” when it comes to the battle for Bellingham.

The report confirms that signing a top-level midfielder will be on Liverpool’s agenda in the summer. Bellingham is someone they are strongly considering in that regard.

With that in mind, Dortmund are already working to extend his contract. Ideally, they want to secure his signature on the fresh terms before the next transfer window opens in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp's Jude Bellingham plan

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reported hopes that rival clubs will be distracted by Erling Haaland’s summer availability, leaving the reds free to pursue a £90m move for his teammate Jude Bellingham.

Until then, he will keep representing them regardless. So far this season, the teenager has contributed 10 assists and four goals from 29 appearances.

Dortmund therefore hope his association with them will continue in the long-term. They could also increase their commitment to the Bellingham family by signing Jude’s younger brother Jobe from Birmingham too.

If that does indeed sweeten the deal, Liverpool may miss out on one of their ideal targets.

Even now, Dortmund are under no particular pressure to sell Bellingham. They could even command a nine-figure asking price. But they are clearly aware of the interest from back in the Premier League, which is making them accelerate their contract plans.

Bellingham not thinking about transfer solution

Another suitor for Bellingham, should he return to England, is Man Utd.

They originally tried to sign him from Birmingham before he headed abroad. However, their elaborate plans could not convince him.

Midfield remains the main area United need to upgrade in the summer. As such, Bellingham is still on their radar – even if he will be more expensive now.

But when one fan recently asked him if he would be joining, Bellingham replied (as per the Express): “Don’t be silly”.

It appears he has knocked back Man Utd in the transfer race for now. What his thoughts would be on Liverpool are still unclear.

Whatever the case, Dortmund are working to make sure he will be theirs for years to come instead.
