Brighton wrap up savvy James Milner deal after agreeing to what Liverpool refused, as Fabrizio Romano delivers major Mac Allister update

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and midfielder James Milner

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the finer details of Brighton’s move for James Milner that’s been fully accepted by the player, while the transfer guru also provided a major update on Alexis Mac Allister moving the other way.

Key components in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side that lifted their first ever Premier League title are slowly but surely moving away.

Georginio Wijnaldum was the first to go upon joining PSG in 2021. Sadio Mane left for Bayern Munich last summer, while James Milner will now join Brighton at season’s end.

Milner has rarely been a regular starter for Jurgen Klopp, though he’s always been an incredibly useful option capable of putting out fires in numerous positions.

His leadership has been invaluable for the Reds, though now 37, all good things must come to an end.

Despite Klopp calling for a one-year extension, Liverpool’s decision-makers refused to sanction a new deal. As such, Milner will become a free agent this summer and Brighton have fended off Burnley for the veteran’s signature.

Fabrizio Romano tweeted Brighton’s ‘final proposal’ and all the relevant clauses have been accepted by Milner. He’ll sign a one-year deal running until 2024, with Romano giving the move his signature ‘here we go’ confirmation.

Aside from his on-field abilities, a Milner move may prove even more invaluable for Brighton given what’s on their horizon.

A first ever European campaign could soon be secured and very few within their ranks boast European experience.

Milner is a veteran of countless European campaigns including lifting the Champions League in 2019. His experience in that regard could ensure he’s an incredibly savvy signing indeed.

Alexis Mac Allister “keen” on Liverpool switch

Elsewhere, Alexis Mac Allister may yet trade places with James Milner.

Liverpool are chasing the Argentine World Cup winner as one of multiple midfield additions this summer. The Reds hope to wrap up much of their business before pre-season begins.

Liverpool have already tabled their proposal to Brighton as well as to the player. Romano recently reported there is a “100 percent” feeling Mac Allister will leave the Seagulls this summer, but to where is yet to be determined.

Man Utd and Chelsea are both providing competition for Liverpool. However, according to a fresh update from Romano, Mac Allister is taken in by the Reds.

Indeed, Romano reported the 24-year-old is “keen on the Liverpool move”.

Man Utd got a mention in the tweet, though their move for Mac Allister is not the same level of priority as Liverpool’s is. A new centre-forward will take precedence in the halls of Old Trafford this summer.

The journalist added a Man Utd switch hinges on what happens regarding the club’s takeover. Given Liverpool are determined to wrap up the move within a matter of weeks and the player is keen, Anfield is increasingly looking like Mac Allister’s next destination.
