Calvin Ramsay latest: finer details of Liverpool transfer emerge with signing to push out Reds star

Calvin Ramsay - referee Bobby Madden pushes away Aberdeen defender after challenges on Celtic players during the cinch Premiership match at Pittodrie Stadium

Liverpool are reportedly on the brink of securing the signing of Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsay, with the defender likely to sign a lucrative deal at Anfield.

The Reds are looking to add a plethora of young talent to their squad this summer as Jurgen Klopp builds for the future. The German, himself now tied to Anfield until 2026, is looking to snap up the next wave of young talent.

To that end, Liverpool have already set the transfer ball rolling for the summer with a deal for exciting Fulham forward Fabio Carvalho. The England U21 man has even spoken out about his impending switch to Anfield.

However, it seems he is soon to be joined on Merseyside by Scottish teenager Ramsay, with the Reds seemingly close to an agreement.

The teenager first emerged as a target for Leeds United, while Crystal Palace, West Ham and Burnley are also keen.

But a move to Anfield now looks to be on the cards, with 90min claiming Liverpool are nearing a £6m transfer package with Aberdeen.

The 18-year-old is a graduate of the Pittodrie club’s impressive academy. And, having made 27 appearances this season, already looks to have a big future in the game.

Ramsay will reportedly sign an initial five-year deal at Anfield, tying him to the club until 2027.

Liverpool will pay £4m up front, with a further £2m based on add-ons and appearances.

Calvin Ramsay to cover for Alexander-Arnold

A quality right-back, Ramsay is, primarily, seen as cover – and perhaps one day, competition – for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The homegrown star is one of the first names on Klopp’s team-sheet. However, the Reds do not have much in the way of natural cover for the England man.

James Milner has often filled in for him when needed, though the veteran star will not be able to go on forever. Of late, centre-half Joe Gomez has also been asked to play right-back.

But the signing of Ramsay will end Liverpool’s search for a natural-born replacement.

The arrival of Ramsay will also spell curtains for Wales international Neco Williams.

A player who has also covered for Alexander-Arnold before, Williams was allowed to leave for Fulham in the January window.

And with the Cottagers having secured promotion to the Premier League, the 21-year-old is seemingly willing to make the move permanent.

Defensive deals are clever business by Liverpool

The capture of Ramsay looks to be yet another shrewd piece if business by the Reds.

The teenage defender is already regarded as one of Scottish football’s brightest young stars and is destined for greatness.

Liverpool already have a squad the envy of the world over. And, by building for the future, they are looking to safeguard their status among the elite.

Furthermore, with Williams considering a move away this summer, the Reds will likely make a profit in bringing in Ramsay.

And despite his tender years, Ramsay will fancy his chances of getting some decent game-time at Anfield. Klopp has shown a tendancy to give youth its chance throughout the season. In an effort to keep his top stars fresh and amid a packed schedule, game-time will come for Ramsay.

As such, that will likely mean he will be afforded chances to come into the side, especially during the business end of a season.

Meanwhile, with the FA Cup final on the horizon, Alisson Becker has sent a warning to Chelsea.
