Liverpool ‘confident’ about securing huge coup at Man Utd expense, with third side to be left in ruin

Liverpool are growing in confidence about winning the race for Chelsea star Mason Mount, in a move which would see Manchester United lose out and the Blues incredibly frustrated.
On Tuesday, the Daily Mirror suggested three homegrown players could be sold by Chelsea this summer. Mount was named on the list alongside Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Chelsea would never normally consider Mount’s exit as he is an academy graduate who is loved by the fans due to his immense contribution over the past few years. However, his contract expires in June 2024 and this is leading to rumours that a move away from Stamford Bridge could occur.
To make matters worse for Chelsea, talkSPORT describe their renewal discussions with Mount as being at a ‘standstill’. The attacking midfielder wants to become one of Chelsea’s top earners, but the board are unwilling to meet this demand.
Liverpool are known to be admirers of Mount. And they could swoop in for him if his contract talks completely falter. Jurgen Klopp is in dire need of a midfield rebuild this summer and Mount could move to Anfield alongside fellow England ace Jude Bellingham.
Earlier this week, The Telegraph revealed how Man Utd are preparing to rival Liverpool for Mount’s signature.
Erik ten Hag’s side have begun ‘showing an interest’ in the 24-year-old, putting his switch to Liverpool in doubt.
However, talkSPORT put Liverpool at the front of the queue to snare Mount. They claim Liverpool are growing ‘increasingly confident’ of landing him from Chelsea, with Man Utd set to lose out.
Chelsea player ‘ideal’ for Klopp – report
Klopp apparently views Mount as the ‘ideal addition’ to revamp his midfield. While talkSPORT sources close to the Mount camp reckon a Liverpool transfer is ‘highly likely’ at this point.
The report adds that his exit from Chelsea would go down extremely badly with the Blues faithful. Not only would they be losing ‘one of their own’, but the move would also be strengthening a direct rival in the form of Liverpool.
Mount, admittedly, has not been at his best this term. However, a transfer could be just what he needs to get back to his best. Klopp would fancy his chances of making the Portsmouth-born star one of the most effective midfielders in the Premier League once again.
When he is performing, Mount is a top-class player with the ability to both score goals and create them for his team-mates. He has simply not done this enough during the 2022-23 season.
While Chelsea could lose Mount to Liverpool, the two clubs are preparing to go to war over RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.
The centre-back has publicly admitted his fondness for Liverpool after supporting them as a boy. However, Chelsea want to get to Gvardiol first and have reignited their interest in him, as per The Times.
Chelsea had a huge bid for Gvardiol rejected last summer. But they believe this summer will be the time when they finally reach an agreement with Leipzig for him.
Interest also comes from Tottenham and Manchester City. The resultant bidding war could see Gvardiol move to the Premier League for over £100million.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has directly responded to rumours a senior Liverpool star could depart.
